I went to yardsales and picked up several things we needed for little to nothing. I got baskets to put homemade gifts in for Christmas $2 for 4, a jacket for school for DD13 $4..for a $100 jacket, a sweater for church for DD13 $2 Aeropostale very CUTE, 2 shirts for church for hubster $2! for BOTH, and a sweater for church for myself $4 Arizona hooded and oh so soft, a few old antique Mason jars that I can use shortly for $1 each!, a $2 flour sifter that I NEED to make my stews this winter, an antique oil lamp FULL of oil already ;) $7 (best score of the day) for when the power goes out(and I know it will again),and a few things to resell that were such bargains I should be able to recoup what I spent on things for us...so basically it was all free :D I LOVE yardsales when you get there early enough for the bargains! I got brand new Gap hoodies with tags for $5 that retail for $30 and a Oakley laptop sleeve for $5 that retails for like $80...gonna sell those. PLUS I got to spend the WHOLE day with my Mommy and my favorite Aunt...PRICELESS, those ladies are a HOOT! I spent about $40 for a bunch of items and a LOAD of entertainment that is good for the soul ;)

By accident!

I took DS and his friend to the movies, expecting to buy tickets to Shrek for the three of us. When we got there, we discovered it was a "free day" at the theater :ya
I did spring for snacks, though :pop

I picked more green beans and canned them along with the ones I had already picked.
Made laundry soap
Am about to make my own pickling spices, so I can make some more pickles
Picked ripe cukes
picked weeds and other stuff for the goats and rabbit and chickens
Fed chickens broomcorn we grew last year and leftover cooked sweet corn and leftover corn cake.
Made stewed chicken using assorted leftovers, gave about 1 cup of chicken bits to the dog (you know, the parts no one wants to eat)
gave chickens left over slasa from 3 days ago
Picked remaining grapes-turned to raisins. Hopefully they will at least be good as raisins  Oops I just remembered, I left the basket outside.
See ya later....runs off to get the basket of raisins

That sounds like a great haul, and a fun time. But please enlighten me - why do you need a flour sifter to make stew?

I sift flour into the stew to thicken it rather than use things like cornstarch because DD 13 is allergic to cornstarch.
