Calculated food expenses for November yesterday.
$100 spent in total
$45.90 of that was for lunches out (including tips) and items that were purchased to make food that was donated.

Tuesday, I went grocery shopping on the way home from work. One of the local stores had get an 18-oz jar of Jif peanut butter for $1.99 for every $10 purchase up to 6 Jifs.

I only had to buy $20 worth of groceries, so we got two more Jifs for the pantry.

ETA: spent $50 at feed store in November.

My washing machine had been acting up for a week or so. It's a front loading one and only about 4 or 5 years old. It would stop mid cycle and flash "DL" or "F11". I couldn't even get it to unlock the door to get the clothes out.

Sunday, DH spent about 2 hours working on it. The owner's manual was very vague about troubleshooting. Inside, he found a more specific guide. So, he cleaned the filters, sensors and adjusted the door lock guide.

Works perfectly now and we probably saved at least a $75 service call. Woo-hoo for my handy hubby.

Well bank of Canada interest rates dropped 1/2 percent today and I am going to the bank to renegotiate my interest on my mortgage. It is at 5.3% right now...but can be neg quite a bit lower than that. I can probably save about $100 a month right now, that will be rolled back into my mortgage as extra payments so I will save ALOT of money on interest. Yes, there is a penalty...usually about three months worth of interest...which is peanuts compared to the long term savings. So I am going to hound them and get the lowest rate possible...interest rates are down lower than they have been since the 60's right now...they have to be able to do something or I will be shopping around.

I've learned over the years that the place to get your biggest savings is on your mortgage, if you pay attention to what's going on. Once a year I will go over it and see what's up and if I can do anything about it. Right now my loan account has lower interest than my mortgage does...so there is something definitely out of kilter:>) That is why I figure I can negotiate. If I can get it down to the same as the loan account (which fluctuates) I can save AT LEAST $27,000. on mortgage interest in the next ten years. And more by rolling the excess back in. I've been playing with this for ten years now...have reneg it twice so far becasue it was well worth it. The bank must hate to see me coming haha!
