Well, I have to go back a couple days here.

Last Friday I went to pick up to truck loads of free, yes FREE, lumber from a company in town so that I could cover the building my daughters and I had built out of free, yes FREE, pallets that a church friend got for us. Saved from not having to buy wood siding.

Last Saturday, hubby and I butchered 10 meat chickens for our family Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner thats coming up. Saved by not having to buy meat.

Car moved on Sunday for church, had all day service and a dinner so the car only moved once and didn't have to cook alot of food at the house. Saved gas a food.

Stayed home yesterday. Staying home today and tomorrow. Saves money by saving gas.

The down side is that hubby has no work this week. So no work means no money. :barnie But that's O.K. we saved enough through the last few days to help.

Hmmmm! Sorta makes you feel all warm and tingly inside.

I am avoiding activating my new credit card.

I always pay my balance in full at the end of the month, but I think the darn thing is a spending enabler. If I want something it is just too easy to put it on a credit card if I don't have the cash on hand.

Is there any reason I should activate it as soon as possible, like the bank says?

Edited for spelling.

If I were you I'd activate those scissors, snip, snip, snip! Neither my husband nor I have ever had a credit card in all our 13 years of marriage and we've never regretted it (and we have great credit). If you need something in order to order items online or whatever, get a debit card.

Suddenly there are these emails coming regarding sales from online business- one came today for a company where I never shop unless there is a sale. Their flyer sadi "THANKSGIVING SALE up to 67% OFF STOREWIDE!" Missed the up to part- nothing I could have conceviably wants was any more than a little off their normally high prices. And their shipping is horrible.
So I did not buy anything from them.

But I did get my new winter boots in the mail yeaterday- I keep putting them on the clump around the house admiring them. Reminds me of the joy I felt as a kid when I got those new shiny rubber boots- so much fun to walk around in them- sort of loose and wobbly and great to walk in puddles so deep that they became little moving swiming pools for my feet. :D

Debit cards for online shopping worry me- there are a lot of protections for fraud with credit cards but none for debit cards. I've heard stories of disappearing bank balances with debit cards and nothing could be done to get the money back.

 I like that.

I've heard the same about debit cards having less protections. Most of the places I order from I can mail in an order with a check, so I'm not really worried about that aspect.

My score of the day: Thanksgiving food sales.

22 pounds of sweet potatoes $5.50
60 pounds russett potatoes $11.82
bananas $0.39 a pound
celery 44 cents each

I have been so happy to have my new cold pantry this year. Previously I couldn't buy like this because I couldn't keep potatoes long enough with out spoiling. So I think that 60 pounds will last a good while with only the two of us

Never left the house, did not buy anything on-line. Needed milk so DIL picked it up on the way to the house. If I had gone to the store Dh would have tagged alone and hit the candy and cookie area even though we have both here. So the 3.00 milk would have cost me a lot more.

I helped out the cleaning crew next door today with a few buckets of water & they said they had to load a bunch of cinderblocks to remove from the property & asked if I wanted them. Heck yeah! They even loaded them up & brought them over to me! Can't beat that deal! If dh has no use for them I will use them to make a few more raised beds in my garden for next yr!!! Score big time!
