I knew they had not been laying, they all layed a certain color egg and I wasn't seeing many that color, but it felt good when I got the same number of eggs AFTER culling as I did before, in fact, I got more, probably from the ones I had left feeling more relaxed. I kind of got rid of the "top" chickens.

Saved myself a ton of money last week turning down a fence company's quote. Got a new egg customer and was telling him how I need a bigger run for the chickens because of stray dogs. Lo and behold he's been fencing for years and made me a ridiculously low labor offer. So I will get my fence at less than a third of what I was quoted.

I saved fractions of a penny by using water from our new (free) rain barrel for watering my berries and rabbits.

I save money today by grinding up 6lbs of ham that I got free from my work. I now have 3 bags of frozen ham to use for ham salad on those days when I don't have the energy to cook!!! :thumbsup

We stayed home and ate frozen pizza (the good "D" kind that we got for a crazy cheap price with promo coupons from our grocery store) instead of going out to eat for the "free" kids meal which would have ended up costing me like $30.

we have a nice wood stove with a blower that saves my family tons on heating in the winter, its some work too, but again saves so much money.....

not saving yet on corn or bread, but after this yrs harvest of corn and wheat, maybe this will reduce the prices for corn and bread in the future, which is starting to rise in cost. both can be long term storage crops as seed, then grind them into corn meal or flour for foods which will be sooo fresh! i will use no chemicals! so i save on health too

i have a bread making machine, "breadman", which is awesome, it does most of the work and you get a fresh loaf of bread. im using regular store flour right now, but once i get the harvest of wheat, i will be using that as my fresh whole wheat breads!!! wooo.

i got the idea of home wheat from this guy!! brilliant man! it does take alittle work for the small scale plots....

I got young strawberries to fill in my patch from my neighbor. I took off the flowers so hopefully they will put down some good roots. I planted in bunches of 3 - 4 stems so I won't have bare spots when some go into shock.

I also got dandelions from her to feed my rabbits. I brought home a 5 gallon bucket smashed full and the wheelbarrow by her garden was still full. She has the HUGE ones that are easy to dig up. My rabbit LOVES dandelions. Pellet feed is cut in half already this spring. He is free-fed pellets.
