Bettacreek, you're RIGHT! I went to WalMart and found them for $1.50 a box for 12 regular lids. The ones I bought yesterday were from Food Lion. You know. The place with all the good prices! Ha! I took them back today and told the manager that I was in her the other day and got ripped off and I want my money back! She didn't like that, but it was the truth. I asked her to check the price and it was correct! $3.99 for a box of 12! No more Food Lion for me...again.

My favorite grocery store had some marked down organic produce that was still great! I am in salad heaven. Mixed greens, spinach and celery. Yummmm.

Plus- :ya I cut my hair tonight. :weee That's me after about 2 lbs of hair hit the floor. It was too hot and pulling it up was starting to give me headaches. I'm happy with the way it turned out but will give it about a week to decide if I want to go a bit shorter or anything.

1. You can get Tattler reusable canning jar lids. They are plastic, and involve slightly more work, but anytime you can replace a disposable item with a durable good, you will save money in the long run.

2. I finally learned how to cut hair by watching YouTube videos. In fact, we are all getting haircuts today. It saves so much money and time! I even cut my own, and I like the end result BETTER than going to a salon. (The only person who does a better job than I do on myself is my stepson's mom, but she lives 450 miles away, so, sadly, she can only cut my hair about once a year).

We finally were in the area and stopped at the Amish store yesterday and boy! did I get some bargains. They had dutch gel for $1.99 per pound - right next to the boxes of Sure Jell at $3.99 for 1.75 ounces! Their prices on spices are crazy cheap - like $1.95 for a pound of cinnamon....it runs around $6.99 per pound at the restaurant supply store which is still a bargain compared to the grocery store. They also had beef and chicken bouillon with no MSG - yea! The store is a little out of the way for us but given how much we can save by going there, it is worth it to make a run when we have a chance.

I take my pregnant goat for a walk around the property to browse. That way I don't have to buy more feed. They get good quality orchard grass, alfalfa pellets and a goat mix, but their pasture is dry and they grazed everything down, so they need more. I walk around the property and pick lots of fresh greens for them too. The pregnant goat is a picky eater and she eats more, when I walk her. I don't mind spoiling her. I didn't like being pregnant in the heat of summer either. She is do in a week.

We have been eating mostly food we have or are growing. I did several big shoppings a while back and we really are well stocked.

We keep planting more seeds as well. Both foodstuff for us and for the animals. I have a second batch of millet coming up in an area that will become goat pasture in a few weeks. I also planted corn, oats and sunflower seeds in that spot.

My cilantro is coming up and I planted radishes for the neighbor, who is always helping us out. He brought the seeds. His goats and chickens have the run of his place, so he cannot grow anything for himself  He loves radishes, so I told him I would grow them for him.

I picked mustard seeds this morning. My mustard greens went to seed early and I let them. Once I clean them, I will have plenty of mustard seed for pickling, making mustard and for planting. I hope.

I've got two "near" me. One's about 25 minutes, the other is closer to an hour away. Of course the further of the two is slightly cheaper AND offers 50lb bags of goods, which the closer does not. So, I try to make a trip once in awhile to the better one and buy BIG bags. A friend and I go together to save on gas. :)

I put some fig preserves up in used spagetti sauce jars. I de-weeded the garden and gave them to the chickens, then raked the grass clippings and fed them that too. I went to work yesterday with a dead cell phone and resisted the temptation to buy a battery charger to use in the SUV and drove home with no communication.

I made a major score on Craigslist - 12 pieces of 12" square floor tile; a box of 5x5 tiles; a partial box of backsplash tiles and a 30"x 30" piece of marble.....all for FREE!!! Woohoo!
