I canned 8 pints of chili today. I figure it cost me about $1 a jar because I got the 3 pounds of ground chuck for $1.65 a pound and the tomatoes were ones that I had canned last summer.

I also vaccum sealed 2 boneless pork sirloin roasts that cost me 1.29 a pound and two 2 pound sealed bags of sesame ginger marinaded boneless pork sirloin steaks that cost me $1.29 a pound for the pork and .50 for the marinade.

Tomorrow I will can some chicken breasts that I paid $1 a pound for.

We will be eatin good when I break into this stash! :plbb

I'm in the middle of weaning myself off caffine...and have set a day to stop smoking. Started some plants from seed and already have a few coming up!!!
Did you decide to quit smoking because of the April 1st price increase? Hoping that is enough incentive for my dh to quit.

Homesteadmom,

The price increase is just part of it...okay a huge part of it.

With me being unemployed now, it just doen't make any sense for us to smoke up that money, and we definately can't afford a price increase.

Not to mention the health benefits!!

My DH is quitting with me only because of the price increase...but I'll take what I can get.

Still getting off caffine! Headache is better thank goodness

Dh was weaned off caffiene 3 yrs ago & did fine & no headaches, which really surprised me as much as he consumed in a day. I wish you & hubby a lot of luck in quitting. Are you going cold turkey or trying an aid to stop?

Cold turkey...sort of, with both caffine and niccotine (sp?). Take a small drink of soda when I can't handle the headaches. Thinking I'll probably smoke half a cig or something like that to kill the grouchies.

Already thinking about that extra money. I know it makes me sound greedy...but I can live with that. (Snicker)

I've been thinking about the extra money for yrs!! Now it is over $150/mo we would have! Can you say debt reduction????? Not long to pay it off with that much money each month!

We have everything except the house paid off thank goodness. That was a long hard road. I would see what seemed like everybody in the world with a new vehicle and we were still making do with the one car we bought when we were first married and hubbies car that he had before we even met.

It used to really bother me, but I would just focus focus focus and think to myself - most of those cars are going to be repossed because they can't afford the payment. It helped.

I'm gonna put that money in my garden and pantry.

We still have my car we bought 12 years ago, we keep it up and runs like a champ.
