I have had fantastic homemade dumplings that were so light inside they were an addicting joy to eat. I can't make them like that without a truckload of baking powder. :tongue

Tonight is going to be beef stroganoff with wild mushrooms over egg noodles. A friend gave us a jar of dried wild mushroom as a gift. I love using them. We'll have a salad with greens and tomatoes (fresh from the garden still) and steamed swiss chard or maybe frozen asparagus. All the vegies are from our garden. I'm thinking of making pumkin pie for desert. I have the pumkin pie filling already made up. I don't use canned, because I don't like it. Fresh is just sooo much better.

Fresh and HM (homemade) is always better! I am conciously making an effort to make everything from scratch. It is such a feeling of satisfaction knowing you can do it yourself. :)

It sure is satifying to grow it and make it yourself. I have friends who just don't understand that, but in the current economy, some are figuring it out.
When I give someone a jar of homemade pickles or peach jam it really hits home.
We have something from the garden nearly every day for our dinner and I prefer to make things from scratch. Although having the option of something ready made once in a while is also nice.

How can you folks not like dumplings?? They are delicious!

If you cook them properly they are not slimy at all they are light and airy inside like a biscuit or roll. I actually like them when they are still just a bit doughy on the inside...but then again I am odd :)

When you cook them you need to plop them into a simmering broth, cover the pot and wait about 5-10 mins depending on how large they are, then gently flip them over to cook the other side. I continue cooking uncovered but you can cover.

I agree with all of you - home made is better. Even better yet - home grown/home made. What I mean is cooking and baking with ingredients you grew and raised.

Tonight we had Comfy Spaghetti Casserole, salad, home made Oatmeal bread. For dessert, my DH fixed the last of the microwave popcorn and I had the last 2 pieces of chocolates.
