So for my cranberry sauce, I'm going to dump in a peeled orange and cranberries and some star anise....

I need something to sweeten it but I am out of honey but I do have some sugar alcohols. Ummm the one auntie said was less gassy :D

I've never made cranberry sauce before! It'll be an adventure.

If you don't mind tart, you may discover you don't need to add much sweetening, just enough to bring out the cranberry flavor rather than the natural sort of bitterness.

The amount of sugar in normal cranberry sauce is mainly just a) to get the pectin to gel somewhat and b) to keep sugar industry profits high :)

Cranberry sauce -from fresh berries- is super easy, don't worry. I make it with oj and cinnamon.

I am in charge of pies, rolls and the cranberry sauce this year. I have a brand new bucket-o-lard for the pie crusts. :D I'll make cherry, apple, lemon and maybe one more, pecan? I'm still trying to figure out how much pie 14 people need (want?) So I'll start the pies today.

I need to start the base for homemade ice cream today. And go buy some cream.

Rolls can wait until morning to start.

I have some bread rising as I write - need to make sure that the sandwich fixings are available for Friday . And I'll make at least the pastry for the pumpkin pie this afternoon, or maybe the whole thing. It will be just us two, there won't be that much that needs doing. I have some fermented cranberry sauce that I made last month; time to pull it out, and taste test.

I might make a pie today, maybe, but probably not.
TG dinner is more or less another dinner at our house. I just use turkey for the meat part. SO wants mashed potatoes, but we don't have any, so unless I go and buy some, we'll have rice with our turkey.
For most of his life, SO has had to work on Turkey day and I would be stuck at home doing all the cooking. So I tuned it down big time. DD goes to her dad's house for TG. Now that it is often just the 2 of us, I still don't bother making a big deal out of it. I rather spend the time after, making goodies with the leftovers.
Also Fil tends to bring us tons of crappy sweet stuff before and after TG. SO likes most of it, so I don't really need to worry about making pies and such. Over the past two days FIL brought us a container of 6 pull apart pastries, a large whole chocolate cake, a large package of frosted cupcakes and a very large pumpkin pie. We already gave the pumkin pie away and plan on giving at least half of the other stuff away too.
If I am going to eat sweets, I prefer them to be of the highest quality with real food only, another words: homemade.
Although I did eat several of the pastries, they weren't nearly as bad as I expected.

Edited for typos, I think I am catching SO's dylexia LOL

Mmmm.... That sounds really good! Also looking forward to my uncle's version with apples and bacon :)
Apples and bacon? Wow, I'd love to try a recipe like that!

I actually made my pumpkin pies last night. I was going to make one for dinner last night, decided to double the recipe, and ended up with FOUR pies. So some of them are coming with me tomorrow.

Normally I make pies and bake cornbread for stuffing the day before. Put the turkey in early on Thanksgiving Day, and make potatoes and veggies during the day, saving salads, rolls, and gravy for the end.

But yup. Baking the rest of the pies today. :)

I've baked the GF bread and maple muffins, made olive tampanade and started the chevre. Everything else will be done tomorrow. I'm doing the mashed potatoes, a pumpkin custard, and GF gravy. My mom's doing everything else.

I have been in the kitchen bakeing ALL day. From 3 pm, untill just about 11pm. :th Here is what I got accomplished....

1) Buckeyes...peanutbutter balls dipped in melted chocolate.
2) Russian Tea cakes.....melt in your mouth, buttery, with walnuts rolled in powdered sugar while still hot!
3)Pumpkin Pie...from my home canned pumpkin butter.
4) Cherry pie
5) Banana Nut bread...2 loaves with LOTS of walnuts. yummmmm
6) Pumpkin bread...2 loaves..no nuts.
7) Chocolate chip cookies.
DIL is bringing the Apple Pie. ( home made of course) ;)

The kitchen is cleaned, scrubbed, and ready for tomorrow. 6 am, I will get up and make the stuffing, stuff the 21 pounder...and get him in the oven. About 10 am, I will start the taters, corn, yeast rolls, and start cutting veggies for the platter. " green onions, cucumbers, tomatos, black and green olives, sweet and dill pickles"
Then slice some cheeses for a cheese platter.
Hopefully by 1 pm, all will be done..and we will eat WAY too much, then go outside and walk it off, or throw a football..depending on the weather.

Tonight I made a jello dish. And I am toasting bread in the oven to make it hard and breaking it all up tonight so I dont have to do it tommarrow.

Tommarrow mashed potatoes, fruit salad, turkey, gravey, vegis, and an apple crisp for dessert.. Yummy.. Nothing out of a box for me. All from scratch. Thats going to be alot of cutting tommarrow. I have all the apples to cut up, and potatoes. LOL.. At least we already have the celery and onion cut up for the stuffing tommarrow..

Oh and the deviled eggs are being made tonight after I get the kids asleep. Which will be soon..
