My daughter has your exact musical taste! She would ride in your car, too, and probably my teenage boys, although their big favorite now is Sublime.
I've been shocked how much of the 70s classic rock I grew up with is still what the kids listen to (Queen, Aerosmith, Led Zep). My husband still proudly wears his Kiss T-shirts and his all-time fav is the Ramones, so we definitely AIN'T from the country.
When I "hear" metal bands now, it sounds just like static so I no longer enjoy anything with cymbals, so I shy away from rooms/cars blasting that stuff now. I like hearing familiar old songs more than I used to because I can follow along with my brain filling in the blanks of what I don't hear.
I like most music. I don't like death metal or any of those that are just screeching without any real music involved. Don't like much rap. Don't like much country. Hardly any twangy country. But the more rock-country is better. Hip hop is hit or miss. Not so big on Mexican Polka....
So I guess that leaves a lot of metal, rock, classic rock, folk rock, classical, musicals, punk, lots of gothic and industrial (not so much repetitive techno, but things like BlutEngel, Dead Can Dance, Nightwish), big band, lots of "world" music....
Although I was a huge Grateful Dead fan in the 60's. I love the Band, Creedance Clearwater, Led Zep, Pink Floyd and (hangs head in shame) I still like to hear some good old Disco.
