Depends on how carefully you are doing it LOL.

But dyeing just sleeves and the bottom you can. It's a really fun and easy look though. You literally just put the whole thing on a hangar, dip straight into a vat of dye, and hang up. As it drips, the lower half ends up darker than the top. And the very top is undyed. I think you have to do a different chemical solution or steam it to get it to hold the color though.

My Awesome Day
by Abi teh Fae

So my allergies (ragweed. ugh. Also allergic to russian olives and cottonwood) went nuts and I couldn't breathe through my nose and couldn't sleep. Took my last allergy med (that is the tenth pill this YEAR! humph!) and was able to eventually sleep.

Woke up with a sore throat (all the draining) and not much voice. Went to work anyway, of course, because I do love to eat and work is kinda required to do that where I live.

So I make a marvelous tea (horehound, cherry bark, rose hips, mullein, and passion flower) and by the end of the shift my throat is less sore, voice stronger (AFTER 8 hours of talking) and my lymph nodes keep (painfully) draining. So hoorah! Will have another mug before bed.

And my Amira kitty is convinced the neighbor's kitty is her best friend. She is always at their door saying hi. (They've attempted to let her in but she runs off in case they are coming to spray her with water.) Their kitty HATES other cats. Loathes them. Is very baffled at Amira's insistence that they are besties.

Well, tonight, he came over and came in to the house to find Amira. :gig

The neighbor climbed OVER the balcony (our balconies are attached, with a metal fence between for privacy) to come in and fetch her silly boy. All the cats were confused at the humans.

I laughed so hard, and I was on phones. So after the call I logged out to laugh hysterically with the neighbor. My cat socialized theirs!!!

Also, my dye work is GORGEOUS!!!!

Also, also, this is what I put up with while working from home....

How, exactly, am I supposed to type OR use the mouse???

As for the dye work:
the vest is NOT very purple. I guess I would have to cook it and shrink it to get a rich purple, so I'll leave it as is.
the batik is freaking AWESOME.
the tshirts worked but the wine color is VERY orange. Redyeing the 2 with wine. and the amethyst is rather pink. I'll see what my mom thinks, that one is hers.

I hate the waistband on the winter skirt. SO!

Minor change. I'm going to cut 3 times the bottom tier length in muslin. Dye it black. Add it as a ruffle. Remove the waist band and put it on to a new waistband (Since the current waist is longer, the ruffle is necessary to keep the skirt the right length. Also, will weigh it down a bit in the high winds of autumn).

See, this skirt WAS finished. But I didn't like it. So I cut it all apart and redid it, saving only the waist. *shrugs*

Anyway, it won't take as long as it sounds. *laughs* I might even just buy black broadcloth for ruffles.

Heehee! Our Molly cat came out of an apartment where more than 30 cats had been abandoned for several weeks. To get her out of the apartment DH had to drag her off a 7 foot high closet shelf. When we brought her home she moved in to the basement and only came up at night to eat. We hardly saw her. One year later we brought home Nemo. Within a week both cats were hanging around upstairs all the time. She just needed to be socialized I guess! She still hates to be held and won't sit on laps but otherwise she is the sweetest cat.
I have a magazine article that shows how to dye just the bottom part of the shirt. I think it tells how to set the color. As soon as I decide what color I want I'll attempt it. I really like the dark denim blue they used on a long sleeved white tee shirt in the article. I foresee many more orders to Dharma once I try this!!

Post instructions? I think it just has to sit for a day or two before you wash out the dye because shibori is too big to wrap up. And you just hose it with dye. *reads up on this*

Can you tell I'm still new to this? :D
