I can't ever get my cortisol to drop. Is that the one, Auntie, that makes tummy fat? The stress hormone
Yes...cortisol is the one that keeps the belly fat from going down.

Being unable to filter anything out, abi and my son max (as far as I can tell) are hyperaware at all times. Imagine being hyped on speed and then being forced to down a pot of coffee laced with crack.

So yeah...VERY high cortisol levels.

Like the finger wiggling by the ears. Abi, tell them about that :D
Yes ma'am. LOL!!

A way to tune out and literally BLOCK out outside noise is to wiggle your fingers by your ears. Enough so they touch and make a fluttering sound. So if you put your hand out and have all your fingers touching, and then flutter your fingers, they all slap each other. Do that by your ears. It's wonnerful. It blocks more noise than plugging the ears with your fingers.

I've been sending links to your blog & now this thread to my BIL. His middle child (4yo) was recently diagnosed and he despairs of ever understanding B's world.
Thanks Noobie!!! The best way to connect to us is via our obsessions. Dance and cooking for me. Disney movies and video games for Max.

It's just that we are already working really hard and all find it frustrating and rude when others demand we only communicate THEIR way. So it's good to learn a bit how we think and try to follow along. LOL.

*giggles* Yeh. Being intentionally aware helps it out a lot, because intent lowers stress but ... yeh.

Off to do all my chores!! I have about 6 hours and I have to make my cake, four meals, do my laundry, vacuum, and a bit of straightening. :)

I still have a fabric explosion from my red dress LOL. I did clean the kitchen already so I'm started!!!

Abi, are you in person the way you are online? Talkative and fun? Or are you different with the stimulation of another person standing there? Does that overstimulate? Not sure exactly how to word what I am asking....

Gosh. I don't know!! I think I'm more or less the same if I am comfy around you. Otherwise, if you are a stranger or a mere acquaintance, I tend to twitch a lot and look around in paranoia at the same time as being this bouncy. Unless I'm trying really really hard to "be good" and be quiet. Be good always means "don't speak, Abi".

AUNTIE!!! Answer Freem's question for me!!!!!!!!!!

*bounces impatiently* She's prolly being a busy beaver today. Why hasn't she answered yet? LOL.

In person, I'm also much more touchy-feely. I pet people when I talk to them. And if I'm not allowed I won't ever be close to them. So then I pet my clothes and wring my hands. :p

I talk a LOT when I'm overstimmed though. And I pace. And rock. And flap. I'll ask my roommate when he wakes up and make him answer you too :D

ETA: Since I have several AMAZING friends in person who love me VERY much, I must be this awesome in person too. LOL.

Abi is always abi. :D

I know that some people are different online than they appear in person, but abi just IS. Much as I am like I appear online. Opinionated and sarcastic but with a great sense of humor :p

When abi is in a new situation, she can get really quite for a little while. Then it is like all that energy has to get out. She explodes with either dancing or talking or something! :gig

If the situation gets to be too overstimulating, she just whispers "Done now" and it is time to go. I have seen her with a stim hangover when she hangs in a noisy/busy environment too long and it can last in to the next day.

This is Blackbird's fault!!!

What songs do you want at Your Funeral....

I'll have a wake, not a funeral. I wanna be burned and scattered and then lots of dancing. So not listing just the irish jigs and dance music that would be played LOL.

Don't Fear the Reaper (Blue Oyster Cult)
Imperial March (Darth Vader's Theme)
A Month Dead (Stephen Lynch)
I am Stretched on Your Grave (traditional Irish Ballad)
Stay (Shakespeare's Sister)
Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong)

I'm sure there's tons more but my mind is blank :D

I don't have specific songs picked out, but I told my mom they can blare some Fleetwood Mac songs, have a couple pots of black pansies, and bury me in a pine box! (if they could get through the legal matters)

My son does the petting thing to me - drives me NUTS! I'll let him do it for about 10-15 seconds, and then remind him that "Mommy is NOT a dog or cat." We had to teach him it's NOT ok to go up and hug everybody all the time and hang on for dear life. I understand it's part of how he deals, but it's still not appropriate, and some people just don't like it.

He talks a lot too, and sometimes we have to go back and worth re-wording one sentence/thought for 5-10 minutes to make sure everybody's on the same page. He actually started this one sometime last year; he just stopped talking and said "You don't understand what I'm saying," so we've learned to listen to that and also turn it around on him when he's not "getting" us. It's weird and frustrating, but it works - and lots less frustrating in the long run than having a meltdown later on b/c of a misunderstanding.

Abi, do the meltdowns ever go away? Or just morph into something else that - while still technically a meltdown - doesn't quite so much resemble a temper tantrum?

And meds - just read in the tumeric milk thread that you say you prefer natural stuff. Is there ANYTHING that works with the Autism Spectrum stuff. I'd love to get my son off of some/all of these drugs, but that one really does help with the meltdowns, and the ADD med helps him focus, and .... and .... I just hate to keep him medicated if there's other alternatives.

On to Blackbird's question - ummm, something Gospel, written by the Gaither's maybe?
