I had to laugh at the stink in the garage story! I was "mom" in the story. I accused dh of hiding the garbage because I couldn't find it anywhere!

Epsom salts soak might help, if you could get the birds to stay in the water for a minimum of 12-15 minutes. Mix it up like you would for a human foot soak (2 c per 1 gallon water). We've used that before with success on chickens. I posted the how and why it works before...here

A new JD mower seems like a fair exchange for unpaid rent. Cool beans! :D

Wouldn't mind getting his new John Deere riding mower in trade for back rent. :fl
E and I call dibs on your old rider if you get the new John Deere! :gig

In regards to the calls and their water, only YOURS do that! Mine are very prim and proper, and only splash a wee bit while in their tub of water. :D  They appreciate the work involved for me to get them fresh water. :gig But, I did post the following in my journal on Sunday....

Then I went out and cleaned the call ducks ponds. They make those messy pretty quick. I had to drain all the water, which I pitched onto the compost pile, and then swish the feathers, feed, and poop out of the bottom. Each tub took 10 gallons of clean water to fill up. Becca's pen of calls were soooooooooo excited over their new clean water that they managed to flap up a tidal wave.....and I got a good dousing as I was standing right next to their pen.

It's post # 2423 if you want to look it up :gig

Mine don't splash their water.

I'm feeling tired and dejected. :( I felt very agitated when I got in the car today to leave for work. All I want to do is spend time at home on my multiple projects, but with a demanding job and other commitments, I'm not getting home now until around dark. I do my basic poultry chores in the dark, then go inside to eat and perhaps run a load of laundry and I'm pretty much done for the day. :/

I'll never by SS at this rate. :he

It gets frustrating when the house is a mess. Haven't put suitcases away from recent trip.

Tonight starts a church women's conference that I signed up for back in April. I'll be going out to Sugarcreek tonight, tomorrow, and possibly Sunday. I know a lot of people expect me to be there and it should be a time to relax and re-energize, but I'm tempted to forget the money invested and skip out on part of it.

BUT then there is the weather to contend with. It hasn't rained too much all summer, but it is cool and rainy now. Need to clean out the garden (potatoes, peppers, beets, and dried black beans). Want to plant a cover crop this year, but I need to prep for it. I could put up the plums Mom bought or shred big zucchini I was given if I had a day inside. :hu

Oh, and don't get me started on my poor eating habits of late. No time to plan and cook. Eating way too much junk and not feeling my best because of it. :hit

Mom told me this morning that she woke up in a dream worrying about what I was going to do with all my poultry for winter. She is also fretting about getting her renter out, the place cleaned up, and new renters in place. :( I hate when she worries.

My bro and SIL are really pushing me to go for Thanksgiving in FL. A large (but getting smaller) family group is renting a condo for a week near Orlando. There are costs for travel, lodging, rental car, food, Disney, etc. SIL thinks I should just put it on my credit card and go for the sake of my nephew who is down there in a rehab center recovering from a terrible motorcycle accident. I do want to see him and his wife, but not under so much expense. Mom is worrying about this too -- family peace and all -- and was trying to find me money and other solutions so I could go along with her. But the more I'm pushed into going, the less I want to. :hide

TGIF -- just wish I could enjoy it more. :/

I can give a couple hours today and tomorrow to help with the poultry stuff so you won't have to do it in the dark.

Sure you will! :) Take a deep breath, and rely on your friends to help when we can! :)

PLEASE! I've seen your house. You've seen mine on it's worse day, AND you just saw my parent's GARAGE! It's all perspective, you're house is clean! I'd let my kids eat off the floors!

If you're stressing about going to this, how relaxing and re-energizing is it going to be fore you?

What needs to be done to prep for the cover crop? Maybe E and I can help, but I can't promise when because he's got a few things here to do before he's willing to do anything else, but I'll talk to him.

Oh, and don't get me started on my poor eating habits of late. No time to plan and cook. Eating way too much junk and not feeling my best because of it. :hit
This is an easy fix. I can get together with your mom, and we'll whip up some healthy meals that freeze well, and if you have a microwave at work, then you're all set. :)

I can come over to help clean up the rental. As for poultry, some of it will be sold at the Swap in October, right? Also, I moved my brooder babies outside with a heat lamp. Would you want to move the pool bantams over to my outdoor brooder? One less brooder for you to worry about.

Tell them if they really want you to go, then they should foot the bill because you just can't afford it right now. It is NOT fair of them to tell you to put it on your credit card that you're wanting to have paid off.

Send your love to your nephew and his wife, send them a nice Christmas present, and tell them you just couldn't make the trip at this time. Offer your sympathies, and prayers for a speedy recovery, and don't let anyone pressure you into doing something you don't want to do!

And yes, Thank God that it IS Friday, that you are awake, alive, and living today, that you're in His Grace, and that you are blessed beyond measure :)

God tells us not to worry about tomorrow, so don't! :) :hugs (and if I could remember where that scripture is, I'd tell you, and I'd give you the rest of it!)

Don't worry about tonight. I filled feeders and waters all up last night and checked this morning, so they should be fine.

Call ducks were loud this morning. They want a fresh tub of water. I keep adding water, but I need to clean the tub. They do love the grass I pull for them.

Please don't let your kids eat off my floors!!! I hate walking in dirt on the carpet. It is mainly pine shavings that the dog and I track into the hall and up the stairs. :sick And the kitchen is so cluttered right now with canning stuff and more that I can't cook properly if I tried. ****zu is smelling up the living room and furniture with his scaly skin issues. :sick

Got to clean out the remaining vegetables, then the old vegetation, burn the sick tomato vines, take down trellis, fix the fence onto posts, etc. But I really don't want to pull you guys from your own multiple projects. I'd like to find time to help you with that coop. :/

That's an idea, though it doesn't help that Mom hasn't been in a cooking mood either of late.

I'm not worried about stuff like Mom is. The brooding chicks aren't a bother so much to me as I know that 50 or so are going to swap. :D

Turkey egg sales are done as I'm now only getting about 4 eggs per week. I have 6 eggs (oldest laid on 9/15). To incubate or eat???

Yes, you do help put things into perspective. I still feel some frustration, but your encouragement helps. :)

Now, if I could only quite sneezing from some sort of allergy!

Time for more coffee! :caf

Becca, My heart goes out to you. You have spent the money on the retreat and sitting here reading, it seems like you could use a little rest, relaxation, and renewal of the spirit. Maybe God knew you would need this break now?

We all go through times when we wonder how to get everything done. I used to hate traveling for work, because a week away made me feel two weeks behind. :/ And I didn't have any animals to take care of except a dog back then. :)

What tricks do you use to get/keep organized? Are you a list maker? Franklin/Covey planner person? 3x5 cards? Maybe all you need is a half day to prioritize the things that need done. Personally, I use my planner for outside the home or big event planning. For home jobs, I use 3x5 cards.

Do you have any time saved that you could use to take one day from work with pay? What I used to do when I felt overwhelmed was to take a "me" day. I would get up early (although the temptation was great to sleep in), and after Bible time, with some coffee and breakfast, I would sit down with a stack of 3x5 cards and write down one project on each card. The projects could be everything I *wanted* to get done, or just everything that *needed* to get done. Maybe since you and mom live together, it would be best to include her in your planning, so she feels less worry.

So one card would be titled 'The Garden' and underneath that, I would list everything I wanted done in the garden. Then I would prioritize that listing, and try to estimate how long it would take to get each portion done. Harvesting potatoes (depending on how and amount you planted) could take 1 hour or 4. Just estimate. Set the card aside. If The Garden is too big a project for one card - divide it up so you have one for harvesting and one for planting.

Start the next card, title it Poultry. Do the same thing as before. Maybe one of the items on this card says take some birds to auction, and you list the birds. Put the date of the auction on the card as well. Then go on to the next card.

Sometimes when everything is laid out like that, I am better able to get through it. And there are possibly things on each card that can be done in 15 minutes or less. I usually tackle them first, if they don't require something else to be done first, even if they are at the bottom of the priority list.

For instance, you just got home from a trip, the suitcases are still cluttering, which makes you crazy. But you have a week-end retreat planned. Pack the suitcases now for the retreat. They are no longer clutter, they are preparation for new trip. (Of course, I *just* realized that today is Friday, so this isn't any big help, because you would be packing anyway.)

Since I can't be there to physically help you, I will pray that you find some peace. ;) :hugs

Becca, we've not even started the coop!! We're trying to get the house ready for winter because the weather man is predicting a cold spell next week. We're putting the stove pipe in today for the woodburner!

Ernie said you must think our house is nasty if you think yours is dirty!

I just have this strong desire to clear out the clutter around me -- so my basement doesn't become like your folks' garage. ;)

Don't feel too much in despair, it is tough trying make everybody happy but yourself - it took me many years to figure that out. My peoples always want me to fly halfway around the world to come to their party and never once offered to come get me, I always tell them I will be there just to shut them up - I seldom go.

Here is an example - I have about 50 feet of wild rose bushes about 8' tall by 6 foot wide and in spring they bloom big time (dog eats them too) so after decades of sending my mom $50 flowers for mothers day I emailed her a picture of my rose bushes and said I will keep them on the vine for her so they would last longer. She loved it.

By the way to keep your house from getting messy is to get rid of all your crap - don't argue just burn it all outside in the fire pit whilst having a few beers and jamming a deep purple song and never clean again.
