Got home last night just around dark from a trip to Denver for work. Spent the whole time in a hotel working at a conference, but I did get to see the mountain range from my room window. Makes me want to go visit my friend in Montana again. She lives in a bowl of mountain ranges near Bozeman. Gee I love that country, though I'm not sure their short summers and rough winters are for me.

Mom did great taking care of my flock while I was gone, but she was happy to have me take over last night. Everyone needed fresh water and food. Had to remind the geese who I was, so I wasn't able to pick up my goose and inspect her leg. She seems to have been favoring it while I was gone. She did eat from my had this morning, though.

Ducks have been laying 1-2 eggs per day now, while the turkeys seem to be slacking off.

Had to treat Dolly the pup for worms. She seems to have a bad case, though she looks and acts normal.

I got up late this morning. Still on mountain time and overtired from having to be around people 24/7 when I'm used to working alone in my quite office and not talking most of the day. Got up too late to take my niece and nephew to school, which put my SIL in a bind. :hide

Hope to get my call ducks and pen from Aly tonight. :weee

Need to stock up on feed for the birds today on my lunch break. I need to figure out my own cheaper recipe for something like Flockraiser.

I bet it is great to be back home and in your own bed! :D It sounds like your mom had a great visit with QA & E yesterday.

I think if you look at the label you might be able to come up with a mock-Flockraiser. But I am not sure it would be less expensive. :/

Was this the conference with Debbie Macomber?

Yes. I only caught one of her 3 talks. I had appointments during the others. She seems like a truly genuine person with a humble heart. I should read one of her books, but I didn't buy one there. Hard to know where to start when she has so many.

I read some of her fiction books that had Shirley, Mercy and Goodness as major characters. They are light romance reading ... the very first one was a Christmas story, I believe. I started the Dakota and Texas series of books, but never got past the first book in either. I know she has written *many* books, I just don't read much fiction.

I am still reading her non-fiction book Knit Together: Discover God's Pattern For Your Life - along with some other books - so I think I will be renewing this one by itself so I can give it full attention.

IMO, Debbie Macomber seems that way in her writing as well.

I now officially have call ducks! Need to take their picture.

I went to Aly's house last night after work and hooked up the trailer the pen has sat on since last Tuesday when we bought them. I'm still not sure where I want to permanently set them, but for now they are in my yard near the main coop.

They are so well behaved that I didn't hear a peep from them last night. :D Thanks, Aly.

My broody BO hen that hatched twice for me this summer is not longer accepted by the main flock. She was spending all day either in a nesting box or up on the roost, but last night I couldn't find her anywhere. I finally went out in the run and found her under a rose of sharon bush. So I moved her and her pure BO daughter out to my little A-frame coop. I need to shake up my coops, downsize, and rearrange for winter. Need to make place for breeding sets of BOs and BAs.

I now have 3 crowers each morning. My BO rooster starts it, then the CW roosters join. One young CW roo sounds like an owl. Coot coot doo! :gig

So sleepy this morning that I almost fell asleep driving -- more than once.

:smack Those little snots!!!!!! :gig It might be because they don't have another pen of calls talking to them? :hu Mine were quiet last night, too....so quiet....that we slept in until 10:30 am :hide

So, my mother kept complaining that the house garage stunk to high heaven. I proceeded last night to move 21 chicks and poults to our outer garage and set up a brooder for them in the lawn trailer I'd used before. Had to cat proof it. Then I cleaned out my box brooder for the Polish and Salmon Favorelles and I freshened the bedding in the bantam brooder.

The stink lingered.

Then I found a bag of trash pushed into the corner. It contained incubated eggs that didn't fully develop. Mom was supposed to have put that out with the trash last Thursday while I was out of town. There's your stink! :sick

Hey Aly, the call ducks go through so much water because they fling it to the moon! They can half empty that 10 gallon tub in 6 hours. I did find they enjoy chomping on grass, and they are only loud when the dogs jump up to inspect them. :)

Also found I have a 4th crower. My young Black Australorp roo that is covering a harem of 5 hens is now crowing. Getting crazy. My neighbor a half mile or so up the road says she can hear my geese when they do their scream alarm. :hide

My goose and my WH drake keep having leg/foot issues and limping. Can't find any bumblefoot on the goose so it may have been a leg muscle issue. The drake may have a spot of BF, but it is very small and I'm trying to figure out how best to treat it.

Still need to dig potatoes, but it there is rain all week. :barnie

Mom's renter said he is leaving, turned off the electric, but his stuff is still there. Rent manager is coming today to inspect things and place an eviction notice. We can't prep for new renters until his stuff is out. Wouldn't mind getting his new John Deere riding mower in trade for back rent. :fl
