Please don't tell me I'm dreaming!

This morning I saw a small flock of robins in my yard hopping around in the area where snow melted yesterday. Got to work and my boss said she was sure she had seen a robin this morning.

Even if they are just passing through on migration, I welcome the promise of spring they bring. :weee :weee :weee :weee :weee

Still healing from my icy fall, PMSing, and feeling sinusy, and I'd rather be in bed today. So those robins are a real blessing. :)
YOU HAVE MELTED SNOW SPOTS!!!???? :smack

A robin's diet changes in the winter. They don't eat the worms, etc during the winter months, but instead eat a variety of berries, seeds, etc. Normally, you'll see them in the woods and near orchards during the winter. I see them all winter long.

We did have some bare areas, but then it snowed an inch last night. :/

Our snow pack hasn't had a chance to build up too deep this year. The house is on a hillside that faces south, so it is one of the areas in the valley that melts first. That's why I get so many deer in my yard.

But another sign of spring is that my roosters are getting very amorous. Some girls are already showing the wear and tear. I really need to work on getting my breeds separated. :he

Definitely feeling like spring here. Much of the snow is gone, though the ice is still holding on.

Had my first litter of bunnies Sunday night. There were 3 large ones, and I found them all dead Monday morning. Don't know if the nest just wasn't warm enough or what. This doe did have one unsuccessful litter and one small successful one where she only lost the runt. Not sure I'll breed her again.

Yesterday I found my lovely Blue Splash Naked Neck roo dead. Belly and feet up in a duck shelter he never goes into. I can't figure out what killed him. :hit

I have one pair of Muscovy ducks, and they are just hilarious. The drake recently discovered the main chicken coop -- and the hens weren't happy to share their space. Today, I looked in just to check on things and find the Muscovy duck hen in the top level nest box peeking out at me with a smile on her face. I think the happy couple is hunting for a place to raise their first family.

Bummer about your rooster and the kits! It does sound like maybe she's not cut out for the job?

I'll be waiting for duckling pics once they find their new home and settle in!
