Wow, Bee, I guess you showed those chickens! They all wanted to be sure they weren't next on the block...

Maybe Toby thought his silence would ensure him a long life?

I'm hoping! Its kind of cool to have a roo who rarely crows. Its like these dogs of mine who rarely bark. Its almost like they are so content that they don't need to discuss it any further. :D

I like it like this. It has been too many roos for so long, with the resulting fighting and squawking, running and fussing....it sort of wears one out, ya know?

And the hens obviously are enjoying the peace and quiet also...they have just been drifting quietly around the yard all day, purring and peeping along.

The sheep rarely baa and the calf rarely moos.

Its hard to believe, but its so incredibly peaceful that I have been walking around sighing all day. Bliss! :)

Bee, you have such a wonderfull writing style, that I can almost feel the peace, even though I have cars going by my window and the tv on in the other room.

Yes, I agree Bee needs to wrote a book!

I am glad that you are enjoying the peace and quite...you make it sound just heavenly!

By the way, I thought that possums were mean. Did't the thing try to bite you?? That would have been my fear!

You know what? I've never really seen a "mean" possum. Of course, they hiss and bare their teeth when you corner them but they don't lunge or face you directly....sort of roll their heads to the side and grin.

I've had prior experience with possums out in the yard and such and they just waddle away or, when cornered, just stand still and try to be small and inoffensive. They are not real aggressive like a coon.

This one seemed to be a teenager, not a very large possum but he had a full, large set of family jewels, if you know what I mean. :p

I guess he could have bitten me but I was being pretty careful and would have dropped him in a heartbeat if he had recoiled on me!

Thank you, FD, FF, and Dace! I'm still getting around to that whole book thingy!

Its hard to paint a picture with words on here and downloads are slow and don't really do it justice, but I try. :frow

Oh, I think you painted a more than adequate word picture....

Still so very quiet here. My Toby seems to have lost his voice and I hope it lasts. Its kind of like watching the old silent films but without the jerky cinematography! :D

Animals all doing their normal activity, walking and eating, scratching and flying.....all very low-key and sotto voce. Its like they are caught between the seasons and are quietly waiting for the next revolution.

I feel like that sometimes. Sometimes the season comes to it's fullness and sort of hangs on the cusp.....waiting for some celestial signal. I love those times of the year with a passion!

:love

It doesn't look to be a good apple year here, so next year I intend to be more prepared. I'm going to invest in some good books on tending apple trees and see if I can make a difference in the outcome of the crop.
