Back home from visiting the relations in OH for Thanksgiving.....stuffed like a turkey and ready to settle down by the wood stove and ruminate. :p

Hope everyone had a safe holiday!

The Bettys and dogs were real glad to see us home and it was a relief to see them safely in the yard, doing what they all do best....look pretty! :love

Yesterday got my old-timey, dumpster dived for, 50's era nativity scene put up...what a pain! It looks sweet, though, and will look even better with the lights added. Will try to post a pic when it is done.

We have been cleaning, re-organizing and eliminating....like spring cleaning in November! :p Trying to make more room, more room, more room.....Mom had a few big items she wanted to bring~a stair stepper, for one! :th

She has completely repainted her room and it is darling. I will add some finishing touches here and there, we will put down the carpeting~ourselves! :barnie ~ this week and will be able to move her in! :celebrate

I'll try to post before and after pics when I can...the transformation is pleasing to the eye.

I have a rather large collection of books and movies, so we are trying to come up with solutions for keeping the movies downstairs, somewhat near the TV without keeping them in the living room. I think I will be putting up a shelf in the hallway that is about 10 in. from the ceiling and runs the entire length of the hallway. No one sees this hallway but Mom, as she goes to her room, so this will be perfect. All the movies still close, but up and away. If I paint this shelf the same color as the hall, it may just blend and look like it belongs....I hope.

The books will have to be kept in one of my deep closets upstairs until I can build a proper bookcase.

I had a chicken die very mysteriously today...it was rather weird. We had just been outside and all the birds were hail and hardy, we watched them awhile and went inside. When I got inside, I happened to glance out the window and saw one of the hens lying in the yard where we had just been. I went out to find her lying like she had just fallen down, sprawled and limp. One feather lying beside her, no puncture wounds, no other feathers out of place, no obvious signs of heart attack......she just looked like she was sleeping, still warm, no signs of any injury.

If the dogs had somehow got a wild hair and did this, there would be wet feathers from their mouth.....it was too fresh a kill for the feathers to have dried. If a hawk had picked her up and dropped her, she would have claw marks somewhere, some puncture of the skin. None! No blood, no broken bones, no gaping mouth, no blue comb, no signs at all.....very weird! :idunno

Sorry about the chicken Bee, that is weird.

Sounds like you Mom is settling in nicely. A stair stepper? Wow, is all I can say. About your movie collection. Are they VCR or DVD? I finally had to give in a and remove every DVD my kids have from it's case. I used one of those CD cases. Much more compact and believe it or not less damage to the DVDs. My kids would leave them out of the boxes. I had no problem getting rid of the cases because they are kids movies. I am sure we will have them forever. Just an idea. Not sure if this would work for you.

I can't wait to see pictures!!! Have a great day.

We had thought of that...just getting a DVD case and then converting all the VHS to DVD. This would take a little time, but I think it would be worth it!

I think we will do that very thing for the DVDs and put the VHS on DVD later in the year.....great thinking Gina! :thumbsup

Yes...I dissuaded her from bringing her Chuck Norris Total Gym.... :th She very sadly parted with it. Tell me? Does a 75 year old woman really need to have a total gym!?

I didn't have any room for it or it would be here...and welcome! She can bring anything her little heart desires~if it fits in the house! :thumbsup

Love that woman! :love

Bee it sounds like you are doing a lot of reorganizing! Spring cleaning for sure!

I can't wait to see pics of your moms new room and your nativity. Didn't you rescue that nativity last year?

Year before last! You are correct! We couldn't use it last Christmas because the boys had stacked my winter woodpile in front of it and it was buried so deeply.

Will get the lights for it tomorrow and it should look pretty sweet and old. The cats are finding it a source of delight and are playing back and forth between the figures.

Today I found the perfect paint colors for my living room....and it was by sheer accident that I chose my exact fave shades that match my McCoy vase and my yellow pottery.

I can't wait to get that room done!!!! Will take a before and after pic, for sure! :weee

The Bat will be doing the painting because, quite frankly, I couldn't paint my way out of a paper bag! I'm much too sloppy and clumsy. :(

We got the carpet for her room today and we will put it down ourselves tomorrow! :celebrate :ya Can't wait to get her room done..... she really needs to have a place of her own in this busy, noisy house. She chose a cheery yellow for her room with bright white trim.

I am trying something that might look cute for one of the walls. The Bat is a very Plain Jane decorator~which translates into: She does NOT do it. She likes barren walls.

I had this small, very flimsy chest of drawers that we busted up for kindling but I saved the front of the drawers. I will paint them white and arrange them, with equal spacing, across one wall. One of them will be right over her little desk.

She can then use the knobs to hang small things or even to hang a small everlasting wreath/posy, or a straw hat, etc. The one over her desk will have a small, flat-backed basket for her mail and bills.

I think it will look darling and very unusual....and lets me repurpose the front of those drawers. I will be using two of them in my living room, will block them out for a small spacing/shelving to hold some picture frames.

My living room will be Saffron yellow with Green Twig trim(sort of an old enamel green). We have decided to strip up the carpeting in this room and refinish the tongue and groove flooring in a warm stain~maybe oak, not sure.

LOVE painting dull rooms and turning them into something good to look upon! :love
