Well....they are kinda cute..... :) I love how soft they look and how they shine in the sun. I love seeing them bottoms up in the green grass with those fluffy butts clean and soft towards the sky. I love when they strut proudly and purr softly.

I'm always surprised at just how heavy they are when I pick one up...they seem so light and ethereal when you watch them. Then I pick one up and she is a ton bun...it always surprises me. Especially the roo....he is so substantial and thick. A beautiful and proud bird with rich colors and bright eyes....he is truly a wonderful example of farm poultry!

DD, chickens are remarkably easy to keep and it isn't rocket science to figure it out, so I guess that is why I get mildly annoyed to see all those threads on BYC where they got some technical nutrition ratios out of a book or have a pharmacy lined up in their home to treat every crooked fecal matter that falls to their pristine coop floors! :p

Scares normal folk half to death when they see all those diseases, cures, injuries, egg bound this or that, compacted crops, crippled legs, etc. If you are doing it right you mostly will never have any of these happenings and if you do, somewhere along the line you've gotten some bad advice from a book or magazine or you did no research at all and threw some birds in a tiny coop and started feeding them medication and processed feeds.
And here I thought I was the paranoid one, because I wasn't worming, de-licing, checking vents and crops every 6 months? :idunno

FJ, I don't do any of that stuff, either. And, the only birds I've lost are to predators. :hu

Wonder why....is it damp where you live? Do you get your chicks onto your soil as soon as possible?
