All these changes are what I consider the proverbial handwriting on the wall. I've been reading in James and Peter and noticed that they both talked about the end times coming soon and that we should be vigilant, watch and pray.

In 2 Peter 3: 3-8 it states:

First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4They will say, Where is this coming he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation. 5But they deliberately forget that long ago by Gods word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

8But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (NIV)
That pretty well sums up the attitude of some of the Christians I know personally....they don't want it to happen, so they deny that it will happen soon in hopes He will just wait until they get done living their lives. I think every generation has that attitude..."Well, it hasn't happened yet and folks have been predicting His coming from way back, so it likely won't happen while we are still living."

I think the last generation on Earth will still be saying that very thing... :p

I agree Bee. Generation after generation has been "waiting" and now the "new generation" has become impatient, and nay sayers. I dont even want to try to pretend that I have a clue when the end will come...I dont want to know...I want to be able to serve my Lord in the way he wants...be peacefull...dutifull...and loveing. Care for my friends and family, and help strangers when I can. AND, ALWAYS be thankfull.....for everything we have, or get.

I agree with that!!! even the bible foretells of many who worship God but are lukewarm in their devotion (Rev 3:16)... we are told to "keep on the watch" (Lu 21:36) it really keeps us spiritually strong if we live each day as it's the last instead of letting our love for God take a back seat because "it hasn't happened yet"

I have been watching and waiting eagerly for signs these days are those of the end times. I am weary of the world and the sin therein and wish for a brighter day, a long tomorrow. If that makes me an alarmist or doomsayer, I don't care....nearly every book in the Bible urges us to be awaiting eagerly for Jesus to come back and to have ourselves ready.

Well I am in a different cmp....my father spent my whole life talking about Jesus coming, and brought us to movies that scared the crap out of us when we were too young to handle it...so I have a very mixed up psychological problem in this area, I kid you not.
I definitey do hope, however that the rapture happens before the tribulation, but I am not sure what to think there either. There are perfectly good arguments on both sides of the debate.
I just figure that I will live my life as close to the Lord as I can, and hope for the best...and hope that I don't have some fundamental doctrine all wrong that causes me to be left behind when it does happen...or that i have never committed the unforgiveable sin back in my drunken teenage days that I don't remember...
I was raised to feel GUILTY no matter how well I thought I was doing...and haven't been able to shake it thus far.

Morel, my MIL was raised the same exact way. She used to constantly say "all our righteous acts are like filthy rags" Isaiah 64:6 Which is only part of a verse which is taken out of context the way she used it.

She lived like no matter what she did God looked down on her and was just waiting to crush her. Part of that probably also came from living with her earthly father who was an abuser.

Finally my hubby, her son, got tired of hearing her little mantra. He used to quote a verse about God's love for us or a verse about some person that pleased God every time he heard her say it. (There are LOTS AND LOTS of those verses - just look some up! :celebrate ) VERY slowly she started being able to realize the amazing love that God our Father has for His children. :hugs

Thanks Free! I am going to have to look up those verses. My father also taught us to never have pride in anything we do....NEVER EVER be proud...cause nothing you do is ever going to be good enough. Funniest thing is, my whole life I almost TRIED never to do anything that would perhaps instil pride. Then I started quilting...and now I feel guilty everytime I think I've done a great job! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! :barnie

Here are a couple of verses to look at and study further.

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31

When you do something well, for the glory of God it makes Him happy and so should you be.

"Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, for each one should carry his own load." Galatians 6:4-5

This verse sounds like pride may be permissible ... what do you think? :D
