Already there, Farm!!!!! Loving this cool weather and planning to get the winter sheep pen in shape this week, clean out the old bedding in the coop and replace it with fresh...love that smell!, and generally getting the place ready for winter.
Plan to reseed the yard and gardens this week as well....will be doing winter wheat and and clover for the gardens and a mix of drought resistant grasses for the yard.
Also planning on picking the apples and lovingly storing the best ones, making sauce, apple butter, apple pie mix, apple juice and vinegar with the rest.
Then, sorting out the cellar and building and the attic.
Welcome back Bee! So glad to hear you are feeling better. We are enjoying the fall weather too..LOVE these cool nights, and a warm fire. Especially after canning applesauce and apple jelly all day.
I'm planning on extending the shelter of my lean to so the sheep can have more dry areas of shelter in which to be this winter. I intend to put up a pen/hallway that extends from the barn to the garden fence utilizing my cattle panels and T posts.
Then I'm going to get some real heavy duty zip ties and wire and bend some cattle panels in an arc over the extension, fasten them, place a tarp over this and secure it with zip ties and a cargo netting.
It may not turn out looking real pretty but it should be snug and sturdy when I'm through. We get some pretty big winds here but I intend to make it sturdy.
Anyone else ever erected temporary shelter out of cattle panels and tarps?
Started building this addition to the winter pen today...not real labor intensive but my building and the gates pose problematic. Am working it out and it should be looking well jimmy-rigged by the time its done!
Black Betty still has not had her lamb...but she seems to have gained a new friend to take the place of Ugly Betty. She now has one of my RIR pullets that likes to hitch a ride on her back! I've seen this in pictures, mostly with goats, but I would have never believed it until I saw it here~twice so far.
So adorable....I hope to get a pic of it soonest and show it to you all.
