ok, this is Rottweiler;

Temperament
The Rottweiler is basically a calm, confident and courageous dog with a self-assured aloofness that does not lend itself to immediate and indiscriminate friendships. A Rottweiler is self-confident and responds quietly and with a wait-and-see attitude to influences in his environment. He has an inherent desire to protect home and family, and is an intelligent dog of extreme hardness and adaptability with a strong willingness to work, making him especially suited as a companion, guardian and general all-purpose dog.

(so probably not me!)

Great Pyrenees;

Temperament
Character and temperament are of utmost importance. In nature, the Great Pyrenees is confident, gentle, and affectionate. While territorial and protective of his flock or family when necessary, his general demeanor is one of quiet composure, both patient and tolerant. He is strong willed, independent and somewhat reserved, yet attentive, fearless and loyal to his charges both human and animal.

Awwww. Maybe I am a dog person!
I know a big issue is that I need to learn how to properly train the animal..
At one house we lived at, our neighbor had to have had 40+ dogs, mostly hunting breeds, and not many were trained very well, so I was attacked by actual packs of their dogs on more than one occasion. Our own dogs weren't trained very well either, I admit.

The Pomeranian is an extrovert, exhibiting great intelligence and a vivacious spirit, making him a great companion dog as well as a competitive show dog.

Hmmmm, does sorta sound like me a bit. I actually had a woman tell me today, I was her Idol. :/ I told her to NOT think of me that way, then she went on how I " always have the answers to her issues, on animals, neighbors, canning, etc" Well...I dont know it all...for SURE! So, I said...how about we just say... I am your friend. ;)

I must admit that I literally cannot bear to visit someone who allows their dogs to jump up on/against people. :he It is so incredibly rude!!!

Then they start shouting at the dog, like it's his fault! :th So, not only do you have muddy paw prints all over you but you have created a domestic broohaha as these people shout at their dogs, apologize for the offense and then banish the dog to another room or place it in the house for safekeeping.

One has to imagine that this scene has been played before with the same results....why in the world don't they correct the behaviour so they won't have to go through this over and over? :idunno

No idea Bee.
Our main issue was making sure the dog left the birds alone.

Our current dog is a lab/Chow mix. She's a wimp. But she loves her chickens. I have been able to get her to attack on command in the past, but never have broken the cat, chicken, and goat chasing.

More a cat person, but I love the German Shepherds and similar ( wolf type) breeds. I've had a couple of them. Very smart, easy to train, and I could scrunch that fur in my hands all day. Makes me feel safe and warm (literally) with them around.
I also had a beautiful one that was 1/4 coyote. She protected the family, was a cuddler, was gentle with the kitten and made a great Mama. ( We let her have 1 litter. )
I would not consider her a farm dog though, especially around poultry. We know she snuck up on and caught any bird that dropped it's guard. Her Mom was a sweet, farm dog and kept their children very safe.
My other favorite is a lab/pit mix. They are smart, sweet, goofballs that can be taught to be gentle with any animals that they are raised around. Our old boy was very sweet to babies, whether they were human, kitten, puppies, . . . or a mouse. :rolleyes: We gave the baby mouse to the cat.

I'd love to have a Great Pyr or an Anatolian, if I had a farm for them.

Right now, I have no dog. :( And, as much as I'd love to get a puppy, I just don't have the time to deal w/one. I'll admit to every so once in awhile looking to see if I can find one. But, I'm always turned off by the price. I think the cheapest one I've found has been over $1000! I honestly don't think it's worth putting out that kind of money for a pup. :/

I love the dog topic!

So we have a Sheltie....

The Shetland Sheepdog is a beautiful, intelligent, friendly, loyal, affectionate, gentle, and quirky dog breed. Shelties are family-oriented dogs, making them very loyal to their human pack. They are also great with kids if you socialize them early.

Got the quirky part right! :lol:

Your Newfi breed sounds like a dream.....I really love shepherds. There is one breed similar to a shepherd, more black, funny name. I want to explore that breed.

I am getting a puppy itch these days :rolleyes:

Man I agree! Those descriptions really DO sound like us!

Yes the Huskies have to be CLOSELY monitored with the livestock, but I DID use her to pull anything and everything I could find. Huskies are never more happy than when they are hard at work or deep in the middle of a "project".

Hmm even THAT sounds like me. :p :lol:

My daughter has a dog collection. A Pointer/Pit bull mutt (she is a sweetie but don't be the bad guy), a beagle, Husky/German Shepherd (my dogs brother) and a Pomeranian. I guess she has a split personality! :lol:
