farmerchick You don't have to wait for school to be out of session to go camping!!! Homeschool her all over the country!!! We did this with my two kids for 2 years and they LOVED it! My little niece came along on a lot of trips as well and she had a great time! They get a better education that way too because they get to EXPERIENCE everything first hand. If you worry about the social effects...we had extra kids every campground we pulled into  All the other kids would converge on our camper to play WiiSports with my two and I fed them lunch half the time then we all did their P.E. at the campground pool or on bikes. Do it while she's little!!! When she gets in high school grades, send her back to public and let her have her prom and graduation and friends. But NOW...if I was in the financial shape to do it, my DD 13 and niece would be on the road with us learning through living! We went everywhere from Georgia Aquarium to the Memphis Zoo on field trips and had a GREAT time! Just something to consider. The younger years are the easiest to do homeschooling ;)

yea Gina you are 3 axle on that monster those are the best! :) :p

Tony would die, and I mean die over that rig of yours cause that is what he wants--NOW haha I have to wait a tad longer to grade up to your rig but girl, that is what I am shooting for LOL

friends think I am nuts for putting in the money but it is the lifestyle...literally. the campground experience to me is priceless....lol...even tho the rigs sure can be "pricey" but unless you want the camping experience and your own sheets and meals etc and not be in a hotel or rental, then ya just don't know. I am never worried with Nicole at a campground. The family atmosphere is just wonderful! :)

Yea I had a 3500 Chevy to pull the horse trailer. It would dwarf that rig. You need at least a monster dually but the Freightleiner is tops!

It amazes me time and time again to see how under powered people can be on their trucks to pull monster campers. I drive down the road and see a 1500 pulling a big triple slide 5th wheel---what the ?? hmm..can we say disaster? haha

I have double slide but the second slide is Nicole's bunk room. I like it cause even though it doesn't add to my space, in a way it does cause when I get out of the bathroom I go into her "big" room to dress lol
but we have the big living room slide also and that is the main area everyone must be able to move....so as long as you have that you are set.

Hey Gina I doubt you get "rig envy" anymore with that nice set up haha

In fact I see your type of rig and I get the envy haha

with that rig Gina you best be planning some camping trips! :) and now before gas hits $4

oh edited to say that movie RV was funny especially the sewer dump part lol

no Wannabee

I want Nicole in school. No homeschool here but I truly don't have to worry cause if I do a camping trip I can excuse her from school on an educational trip with no backlash on her attendance. All of my camping trips would be excused as long as she comes back with a little knowledge and info. on the environment, park, animals or whatever we happen to see while camping.

I already took her out of 3 days of school towards the end for a beach trip. Excused no problem. She took back some shells and fossil shark teeth from a "dino/shark exhibit" we visited at the maritime museum.

For the amt. of time I camp/afford to hit the road, the allowed excuse from school works fine.....but of course I can't OVER use that situation lol

I would strongly suggest Camp Hattaras (camphattaras.com) on the outer banks. This campground is right on the beach in Rodanthe, NC. It is one of our favorites in the OBX area. Oh the blue crabs are calling me right now! There are also so many wonderful places to camp in western NC. The hills and the trout-streams there whisper to me sometimes at night. I would say that the NC, VA, WV, SC, and TN area of our great country offers some of the best camping areas in the world. I also love the Pacific Northwest.

My wife and I were fulltimers for about 7 years right after I retired. But she missed the family and holidays so much that we finally purchased a small farm in Indiana. We still have the motorhome and only travel in the winter nowadays. Luckily we have 4 next-door neighbor girls about a half mile down the road who watch and care for the farm while we're gone. We're in the Florida Everglades as I write this post. We volunteered here several years and made friends with the staff and the rangers. So now we can just show up and we have a place to stay as long as we would like. Here is a photo album of our rig. I set up this album last fall when we started considering selling the rig. I would not classify this as real CAMPING like we did for many years when the kids were young. But it still requires campgrounds sometimes. And it's still fun.

BOO

absolutely wonderful pictures! :) enjoyed seeing them

and yes, we went to Camp Hatteras 2 years ago....and we are going back this June. Wonderful campground. We walked over to the KOA thinking it might be nicer, but when we got to it, we realized that Camp Hatteras was much better lol

Camp Hatteras along with something like Ocean Lakes in Myrtle are the type of CGs we love. I am searching for cgs like these in Georgia but my search isn't finding any great oceanfront cgs.

You are living what I want to do --cool! :)

I just said to Tony the other day that I want to keep this home on the farm and go seasonal in Florida thru the winter. Instead of buying a condo type deal I would love 2-3 mos. in my camper in the warm weather.

No it isn't "tent" camping lol but it is what I call "luxury camping" haha

Boogity, all I have to say is..... I want a washer/dryer!!!!! You have a beautiful RV. Do you take a tow vehicle as well?

That's one good thing about our fifth wheel. We can detach and take the truck where ever. Well not all places. We couldn't fit though the Drive Through Tree in the Redwood's. :gig

Actually we used the campground facilities at Good Sam for washing towels and stuff. In the desert if I have something I really need to wash I use a bucket and hand dry. It is the desert!!

Karen, we get pretty lucky with vacations and school. We have long weekends quite often.. Our desert is only 100 miles from home. So it's totally doable. I prefer at least 4 days though. It usually takes at least 2 to unwind. I can usually stretch my water, 115 gallons for about 5 to 6 days max. If I let the kids stay dirty. :p Spring break is 2 weeks. We can really go anywhere.

Maybe I'll head your way!! :frow

I love sleeping in a tent so do my children. My dh is a bit spoiled but I got him that way. :p But for dry camping in the desert a trailer of some sort is a necessity.
