They do practice flights here since it is said that the Shenandoah valley is alot like some of the valleys overseas (afghanistan and such places)... so we will get some very down close and personal and LOUD runs.... the cows get all upset at the first one then just seem to let it go... summers are when they mostly do it... practice/training stuff...

We live near Joint Base Lewis McChord. Helicopters go over us occasionally. We hear the big guns when they do artillery drills. They do warn of those on their Facebook page. JBLM is actually pretty quiet, though.

I used to live right outside the gate of Naval Air Station Oceana. Get used to pausing in conversations until the jets pass. I got used to that when I lived on base and worked the Line Shack. I worked F-14s. They are even worse up close especially if they have to do an engine high power test. Ear plugs in addition to headset for that. Have to tie the jet down all the way for that as well.

Coffee is ready. On my second and last cup. Got to go to Lufkin today to overnight documents back to the investment firm so they can fund my bank account for purchase of my new place. Overnight from Tyler took 3 days. Way to go UPS.
So I’ll do my “town” stuff, need paint, dog food and a few other things.

Y’all have a great day!

We are considering utilizing a free community garden from a local church. They are offering 10'x10' plots. They will do an initial till and have water available. I would have to plant, tend, harvest, and clean up.

Seriously considering this. Thoughts? Suggestions on what I might grow?

I would say it would depend on how close it is to your house and how often you believe you will be going there. I would say beans (you could do a teepee style or bush), onions, radishes, cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts and carrots would be my suggestions. What a great opportunity!

Agree! Pick low maintenance crops if it's not close to home. Plants that shade out the weeds! Bush beans spaced closely. I agree with cabbage and broccoli. Would add kale and celtuce.

I would also suggest sawdust or fine wood shaving mulch to suppress weeds
