I agree 1,000% Deb! ;)

Allie's school is having a suicide awareness walk on Saturday and I'm so glad that doc and I have let her and our nephew know that we are here for them, no matter what. They're the kids that I'll never have and I love them both like they're my own...their friends have been told the same thing. We may not have much but we've got tons of love, time, patience, an ear to b**** into and a shoulder to lean on for all of them!

Got the Ivermectin for the buns, gave them all a dose, just because. Worried about #1 but am hoping that it's just the fresh willow and yarrow I've given her to fight the problem with the ear mites. :fl

This weeks check is a short one since doc had his week off and we still came home from the high dollar feed store with the Arkansas Black Spur Apple tree that I wanted after I told him no worries, we'll get it later. In true fashion for our home, we brought home the last runt available and got enough of a discount that the bun medicine was almost free. :thumbsup It'll cost me a cigar order for him and a Granny Smith Apple tree...I can so live with those concequences!

Should be in bed but can't sleep since we have to be up early for the road trip to Missouri with Mom later this morning. They should have named me Midnight as I'm so not a morning person! Fortunately, we're close enough to the border/state line that it's only a 35 minute trip. ;)

We finally got to sit out by the fire tonight! I was able to get a bunch of garbage (5 small bags) burned. Probably doesn't sound like much to most people but it piles up quick when you only have 22' of indoor living space and I don't like it piling up due to possible wild life attractafication. The stars were amazing so I felt it was all worth the wait! :bow We had a few drinks, each had a cigar and enjoyed each others company...priceless! :D

One of doc's bosses has been really picking his brain on how we are living and that just blows me away! We turned the guy onto Mesclum mix/spring greens mix and when he let doc know that his vacay day for our Baker's Creek Spring Planting Festival trip was officially covered, he requested a pound of the mix. We'll trade out for a pound of buckwheat seed for cover crop/green manure for the garden.

He was also facinated with our humanure project. He didn't quite get the humanure until doc gave him the chicken manure, cow manure, horse manure run down and then the light bulb lit. :gig I've suprised myself and am loving this project...there is nothing nasty about it and I like it better than any litter box that I've ever cleaned. :D There is absolutely no smell and no flies with the sawdust toilet or the humanure compost pile. Doc has been worried about freely adding to the bucket because he doesn't want to add to my work load and I just had to laugh as this method with the sawdust toilet is sooo easy. So kudos to Long Strange Trip Acres for some evolution in this little human that she wasn't expecting!

Yesterday was a good day but looooong! :th

Went up to the salvage place in MO and got one 8' greenhouse bench plus a 4' one and mom got 2 of the short ones. We dropped ours off here then got ready to do our civilized visit at Mom's. I did some watering before we left for the visit but forgot a couple of things and more than likely have lost some of the mater plants I was going to plant here. I've still got plenty of the seed so I'll probably just direct sow them in the garden tomorrow.

Lost bun #1...she was dead when I checked on her this morning. :/ So instead of doing what I had planned (more seed starting), I ended up hauling in some downfall and built a funeral pyre for her. It worked out okay as I was able to get the last of the garbage burned.

Broke down and ran the soaker hoses in the raised beds today and will catch the fruit trees tomorrow. Rain, we need rain!!! :bow

Thanks, hon! :hugs I'm guessing she was already on the downhill run when we got her and I know I did what I could for her. The other two are still doing great and I'm glad I gave them all a small, pea-sized dose of the Ivemectin.

Finally got a decent nights sleep so today was good, but busy! :D

Was up early, so Bubba and I took a walk back to check on the ginseng and it looks like most of it has sprouted...now we need some rain for it. I'm working on growing it wild-simulated and I don't want to haul water back there. We had some rain today, but it was more of a tease, than anything.

Got my Mary Washington Asparagus seeds planted today. Starting them in one of the mini domed greenhouses. Came in from finishing that project and has a message from my sis asking me if I wanted some Asparagus plants. Said yes, then realized I didn't ask her what variety. Meh, don't really care all that much...just want asparagus!

Ran the soaker hose in the garden some more then moved it to the orchard. Tomorrow I'll move it to the flower/herb beds to baby new stuff that I've recently planted and get the ground workable for new additions. It doesn't feel right...having to use the soaker hose in April! :rant

Hope everyone has a great weekend! :hugs

Saturday turned into Monday here... :hide

Decided to finish cleaning the trays from the rabbit cages, so I turned the water on at the hydrant and commenced to cleaning. About 30 minutes into it, I walk up to the shed to get the gallon jug of vinegar and realize that I'm near flooding the orchard. Forgot that I had planned to move the soaker hose and had disconnected it from the garden hose and the water was just spewing away! :th That kinda put a taint on the rest of the day, for me. :/ Wouldn't have been so bad if the water was free-flowing where I plan on digging but it was gushing in the proposed pathway.

So I came in after I finished cleaning the trays and decided to do some research on safe cleaning products for the bun cages. It's Monday, all over again, as the Vanodine that I'd like to get to use is no longer sold in the US. :smack Found a UK supplier that will ship here so I'm going that route after pay day.

Watered everything by hand that needed it and am tired of hand watering already. Going to have to invest in more soaker hoses, which we need to do anyway.

Since my day was on the verge of negative, I've got some cute and positive pictures to share! :D

A couple of my ginseng seedlings:

The wrong camera setting but a funny one. Bub has that "don't do it, mom" look:

Dawn, how are the leaves arranged on the stem, opposite, or alternate. (Do they look like a t, or steps?)

Hi Deb!

Found a cool site for leaf composition and the leaves appear to be arranged in a whorl around the main stem.

Haven't really accomplished much of anything today, or at least it feels that way. :/

Critters are all taken care of, cleaned and oiled the fans, cleaned the AC filter, shop vacced the window screens and the computer keyboard. I'd forgotten just how old it is...it's from our first new computer so it's at least 10 years old. She's definately in the running for retirement.

Well, just wanted to mainly give the cleaner board a test run and it'll work for now. Bub and I are getting ready to go haul in some deadfall wood and get a fire started...we're really just trying to make it rain!

I'm not familiar w/it, but keep an eye on it and when it gets some flowers, post some pics of it and I'll see if I can find it in my one book.

Cool beans, Deb! :hugs

I thought it was an Air Potato at first, and it still may turn out to be that...but it just doesn't look quite right for that, at this point. :idunno I'll keep an eye on it and keep it posted here.

Had a nice night out by the fire pit! Lots of lightening bugs/fire flies and the moon was bright enough that the stars were somewhat washed out but we barely needed our headlamps to walk around. Doc brought up about all of the things we haven't accomplished yet and I side-lined him with it's not what we've not gotten done, it's how far we have come...on a raw piece of land.

I'm so glad that I'm at that point, in our life, with this place. I totally know where he's coming from but we need to remember where we started out at and just how far we've come. :D Sometimes it's one step forward and five steps back but we haven't let those 5 steps back stop us from attempting that next step forward...we keep on, keeping on. ;)

This time, a week from now, I won't be able to sleep because we'll be heading to the Spring Planting Festival up at Baker's Creek! :celebrate I'm in trouble because I already can't sleep over it! :gig Doc has been getting orders for seeds/plants from work and that just tickles me to death. I've always wanted to make a difference "in this lifetime" and I suspect that we are well on our way. We turned doc's boss on to mesclun mix greens and he's sending us with an order for a pound and his cigar buddy wants Mortgage Lifter tomato seeds. Doc has even told his boss about my humanure project and the guy is totally enthralled, even though it took a bit of chicken manure, cow manure, horse manure, humanure to get him on that page. I'm just amazed that the guy is so interested in it that he constantly asks doc about it.

We're doing the civilized visit later today and I hope to see some positive Asparagus asperations but since my sis is involved, I don't have high hopes...pun intended and I hope that I'm wrong. :fl

Hope your weekend went well and Happy Monday! :hugs

Good luck with the asparagus, and have fun on your civilized visit.
I have a running joke with hubby about the Baker's Creek catalog. He calls it my garden porn. ;) We call his computer catalog geek porn, so it's even.

It's good that your buddies there are catching the bug too. These days, lots of people are wanting to try all this stuff.
