Almost Self-Reliant
I agree 1,000% Deb!
Allie's school is having a suicide awareness walk on Saturday and I'm so glad that doc and I have let her and our nephew know that we are here for them, no matter what. They're the kids that I'll never have and I love them both like they're my own...their friends have been told the same thing. We may not have much but we've got tons of love, time, patience, an ear to b**** into and a shoulder to lean on for all of them!
Got the Ivermectin for the buns, gave them all a dose, just because. Worried about #1 but am hoping that it's just the fresh willow and yarrow I've given her to fight the problem with the ear mites.
This weeks check is a short one since doc had his week off and we still came home from the high dollar feed store with the Arkansas Black Spur Apple tree that I wanted after I told him no worries, we'll get it later. In true fashion for our home, we brought home the last runt available and got enough of a discount that the bun medicine was almost free. It'll cost me a cigar order for him and a Granny Smith Apple tree...I can so live with those concequences!
Should be in bed but can't sleep since we have to be up early for the road trip to Missouri with Mom later this morning. They should have named me Midnight as I'm so not a morning person! Fortunately, we're close enough to the border/state line that it's only a 35 minute trip.
We finally got to sit out by the fire tonight! I was able to get a bunch of garbage (5 small bags) burned. Probably doesn't sound like much to most people but it piles up quick when you only have 22' of indoor living space and I don't like it piling up due to possible wild life attractafication. The stars were amazing so I felt it was all worth the wait! We had a few drinks, each had a cigar and enjoyed each others company...priceless!
One of doc's bosses has been really picking his brain on how we are living and that just blows me away! We turned the guy onto Mesclum mix/spring greens mix and when he let doc know that his vacay day for our Baker's Creek Spring Planting Festival trip was officially covered, he requested a pound of the mix. We'll trade out for a pound of buckwheat seed for cover crop/green manure for the garden.
He was also facinated with our humanure project. He didn't quite get the humanure until doc gave him the chicken manure, cow manure, horse manure run down and then the light bulb lit. I've suprised myself and am loving this project...there is nothing nasty about it and I like it better than any litter box that I've ever cleaned. There is absolutely no smell and no flies with the sawdust toilet or the humanure compost pile. Doc has been worried about freely adding to the bucket because he doesn't want to add to my work load and I just had to laugh as this method with the sawdust toilet is sooo easy. So kudos to Long Strange Trip Acres for some evolution in this little human that she wasn't expecting!
