How much is a hoof trim in your area these days? I think my sis is paying $40 a horse just for a trim, but only because she has been a long time customer.

The guy we did have charged $25.00 for a trim for horses, and $15.00 for ponies. He dropped off the face of the earth, and the new guy is $30.00/horse or pony. And, I have the dentist coming on Friday to float their teeth. That's $70.00/horse. :th So, this is an expensive week for me.

My OH finally looked at the tire from my mower and it's shot. So, I looked on line. The cheapest place they had it was Home Depot. But, to get to it, I would have spent the money I was saving in gas-if it wasn't for one thing. I need to have a blood test done. And, the lab is only a few miles from HD. So, I'll get it after I have my test.

I think we have a $50.00 "Trip Charge" on top of any vet work we get done on the large animals.

It is always something when it comes to money. :barnie

Unless it's an emergency, we try to have the vet out only 1x for shots. That way, we split the farm call cost. And, we only have him do coggins and rabies. We can't give rabies ourselves, but we can do other shots. So, that's what we do.

We use an equine dentist. And he's so busy that it's been at least a month since I set up the appointment. That was the first opening I could get!

This morning, I got a taste of fall. It was a bit chilly compared to what it's been, only in the lower 60s. We had some rain yesterday, and the whole earth seemed to have been washed clean. The sun was reflected off of each drop, turning the blades of grass into diamonds. The sky was an inverted blue bowl w/nary a cloud. A gibbous moon hung low in the sky. Only at the horizon was there a hint of the heat and the haze that was to come. A mist hung just over the ground making it a misty morning, my favorite type of day. The air had a clarity about it that's seldom found. All in all, it was a beautiful day w/the promise of cooler weather to come. There was just one problem w/it-I had to go to work. I'm finding more and more I DON'T want to go.

Today is the only day all week that we're not expecting rain. We had several inches on Sunday, showers on Monday and Tuesday, and showers are forecasted for the rest of the week. I couldn't wear my boots today because they're still wet from yesterday. Right now, they're upside down on some temporary poles. They feel much drier now.

Most of my field has dried out again. The only place that it's really bad is right in front of Misty and Stormy's door. I placed a board on the mud just so I could get in to feed them. But, I didn't clean that stall today, that can wait.

Once again, I had a short day at work. A horse injured itself yesterday afternoon, they had a vet out, and were taking it to another vet. No one has any idea how it injured itself. Horses, they're as bad as kids! So, other than stalls, there wasn't much for me to do. I do need to run the manure spreader, but am hoping I can get 1 more day in. W/as wet as the fields are, I'm hoping I don't get stuck!

It doesn't seem possible that in just 2.5 weeks, I'm going to be done work. I am so looking forward to it.

Fall is already coming here too. Today was hot and typical August weather, but we already have some leaves turning color in the maples. We have NEVER seen that in August before. I think it may make for a beautiful fall.

Y'all are such lucky dogs! I've been sweltering in triple digits for weeks. We just set a record in our area for the most number of days above 100*, 38 days above 100*! This is the all time hottest summer ever in my area!

It was too bad you couldn't stay home and enjoy the nice weather, DD. :th
