Denim Deb Hay, hay, hay. Thank the Lord!

of theabies ive helped hatch (not chickens but i cant imagine it being much different) i just gently expand the hole thats already started
Its better for them if they can do it themselves, but sometimes they do need an extra hand to break out.

IF you have to help, be sure to do it SLOWLY and if you see a drop of blood, STOP, and wait 5 minutes. The shell membrane often still has veins running through to the navel and they can bleed out if you break a vein and don't let it coagulate. So do it slowly, if at all. I killed one once :( I felt horrible for weeks, even though it was an accident.

Got up this morning and of course, the first thing I did was check the bator. The other chick was able to get out on it's own! I had made sure the pip was all the way thru the shell so it had air B4 I went to bed. Otherwise, I would have at least broken it thru so it could breath. They're both drying out nicely, walking all over-and falling-and cheeping up a storm. I have a feeling they'll be the only 2 from this batch.

For some reason last night, I dreamt of chicks. Can't image why.

I swear it, it wasn't me! It was only someone that looks like me, was dressed like me, drives the same type of truck, and has the same name. They're the one that walked out of TSC w/6 bantam chicks (silkies I believe). :hide

nice!
Silkies are adorbale too! (and good broodies!)

Silkies are my favs!!! My friend has two and I just love their fluffiness and their little spikey hair dos when it rains!

But they sure are noisy! I hadn't planned on getting that many silkies, but they only had them straight run. Then I got to thinking, they're good broodies, and a lot of people like to have them just cuz they're cute. I'm hoping I have at least 3 hens. If the others are roosters, I'd keep my favorite, and see if I could raise some silkies to sell. Ever since I learned what a silkie was, I wanted some. (Don't tell my hubby that.) :hide
