Got a call from RU this morning. She's a retired teacher, but still substitutes. And, at one of the schools where she subs, one of the teachers is out the rest of the year, so she's filling in. She checked her donkey this morning B4 she left, and it had had its baby! But, she didn't have time to do more than feed the mother. So, she wanted me to check on him. Here he is, only a few hours old. And he's small enough that I can pick him up.

After I had all the animals fed, I decided I was going to go in my tack shed, move the cot and clean all under it. This is what I was greeted with. You can see what she thought of the idea!

Notice there's a cat bed next to her, but she decided dead center was better. I wish my camera hadn't been dead yesterday. She was completely stretched out, and was so deep in sleep she didn't stir when I was making all kinds of noise.

I got that area all cleaned up, and am glad I did. I brought home some stuff that I want to get rid of. Plus I found some stuff I had misplaced.

It rained off and on for most of the morning and early afternoon. And, the grass is up in most of my pasture! You can't really see it yet, but I've taken a B4 photo. I'll post another one in a couple of months so you can see how it looks then.

In the background, you can see the coop hubby is making. I'm hoping he gets it done soon.

Awww! I love the little donkey. It looks like a mini jimmy, I ride a standard size donkey named jimmy.

And the cat has one of those "cat" looks. If my cats had thumbs I would be in sooo much trouble!

And I've learned NOT to take PT's word on anything! She told me the donkey was a little boy. Well, according to RU, it's a girl!

Decided I was going to get to the farm nice and early this morning. After all, the rain had stopped, the sun was shining, and I had stuff to get caught up on. I got to the farm, and saw very quickly that I had to change my plans. I don't know how much rain we got, but the pasture was flooded in places! The horses were out of hay, and the RB feeder was in a few inches of water. Plus, there was standing water in a few other places in the pasture. And while the area in front of Misty's and Stormy's stalls wasn't as bad as it's been in the past, it was still bad enough. There was just no way I was going to do anything in the field other than put out a RB. I couldn't even push the manure in a pile w/out making ruts. So, I get everyone fed, let Stormy out to graze and go to get the tractor so I can put out a RB.

Well, I couldn't get the tractor started! I let it sit for a bit hoping that it just had a bit of water someplace it didn't belong from the rain. That's happened in the past, and it always started-eventually. Well, I was having no luck at all and I didn't have any gas w/me, nor my gas can. So I checked in the barn. Found a small gas can, but it was empty. Decided there was nothing else for it, but to go and get some gas-and I was on the bike!

Put the can in the milk crate, start the bike up, go to drive out Boarder's Lane and have to sit! I could not believe the traffic on the road! It took me a few minutes to get out and I could see more traffic coming. Plus, there was a lot of traffic coming the other direction as well. So, I figured that maybe there was an accident on the main road, and traffic had been directed down this road. I get down a ways and see a sign for a detour. Found out later that they were doing road work on the main road, so all the traffic was rerouted onto the road the farm's on. I got my gas, strapped it in the crate the best I could, and head back to the farm. I had to make a left onto BL, and it wasn't easy. I had to wait a bit for a break in traffic, but was finally able to get in.

Get back to the farm. I needed gas in the mower, so I put about half of it in the mower, then went and put gas in the tractor. I figured if I couldn't get the tractor started, I could get a SB from LF, and then pay her for it. The tractor STILL didn't want to start, but I let it sit for a couple of minutes and was FINALLY able to get it started! :celebrate

Now came the fun part, getting the tractor out of the driveway w/a RB on the spear, going down the road w/all the traffic, getting off the road and into the field w/out any of the horses getting out, then getting back out of the field, making a left onto the road and then making a left into the driveway! I got lucky. I hit a time when there wasn't much traffic, so I was able to get it done.

Since it was too wet to do anything in the field, I worked on getting rid of buttercups from in front of my tack shed. But, the traffic never let up. More cars went by in 5 minutes than I normally see in a week! And, the noise was constant. It was really getting on my nerves. I finally had had enough! But, I still needed to give Storm his 2nd feeding. W/as wet as my field was, there was just NO WAY I could let him thru the area I had seeded. The grass is really coming up good, and if he had gone that way, he would have tore it up. So, that meant I had to lead him thru CL's field. But, CL's horses all chose that time to go to the run-in! They were out of hay, so that left me w/a choice, I could either lead Storm all the way around on the road, up the lane and into the parking area, go thru the yard, thru the RP, and thru CL's field into the RP, or I could put hay out for CL's horses so I could take him by the run-in, and out a side gate into the parking area. I chose to put out the hay.

Stormy did not want to cooperate when I went to lead him out. I was not in the mood to deal w/his antics. I'm going to have to work on his leading some more. I got him calmed down enough so I could lead him w/out getting knocked down, or dragged thru the mud, but I wasn't happy w/how he acted. Once fed, I let him graze in the parking area for a bit, then put him back where he belongs. I was finally able to leave.

Because of a couple of errands I had to run, it meant I had to go down the main road, so that meant more traffic. And, until I turned onto my own street, there was traffic. I was so glad to get into my house. Sometimes, especially in the summer, I can hear the traffic at home, but it's normally at night. But this time I heard nothing. It was such a relief to get away from all the noise.

Wow, what a start in your morning. Does the barn you keep your horses have some sump pumps? We use those for pumping excess water away. Glad you got the tractor started ;)
