I NEED to do some baking too...but I am fully booked through the end of the week. *sigh* I could do it in the afternoons, but that's my "sit on my butt after cooking dinner and recover" time :/ Poo...

I need to clean the kitchen some more. Otherwise, I'd have something going now.

It is cold out there! According to my thermometer, it's only about 9* out. I could not tell you when the last time was that it was that cold out. And, it will only be in the teens when I'm at the farm. It's also cold in my house, so in the not too distant future, I'm going to get up and get bread and brownies going. I have to go shopping this afternoon, so I'll get some bananas, and make chocolate chip banana bread tonight. Tomorrow, I think I'm going to make cookies. After that, who knows? But, it will heat up the house to a point.

Unless they change the forecast, I'll be able to get a load of wood today, and another on Friday. They're only calling for light snow, so I should be good. I think I'll get the wood today, then cut it up tomorrow. Then get wood on Friday and cut it up on Saturday.

Good grief - those kind of temps are ridiculous! We're unseasonably warm right now and should reach the high 70's. Please take care! Enjoy all the baked goods - I'm drooling at the thought of how good your house is going to smell!!! :drool

I wouldn't mind the cold so much if we were set up for it. But, our house is all electric, and we can have either the AC or the heat hooked up. We've been using a convection (I think) space heater which is cheaper to run as well as a couple of 100 watt heaters. And, we've been fine. But, it also hasn't been that cold. It was 50* in the bedroom when I got up. And, the rest of the house was 60*! I left later for the farm than I wanted to but got my brownies and bread made. And, since I got to the farm later, I didn't even attempt to go shopping. I'll go tomorrow.

Basically, I just did what I had to do at the farm. It was just too cold out there to stay longer. But, it took me longer than it should have. It was so cold that when I checked on my chickens this morning I found 2 frozen eggs. I'm thinking they must have laid them after I left yesterday. So, out of the 3 eggs I got today, only 1 is good. I'm planning on cooking those eggs up and just feeding them to the chickens.

Got home, and it was still cold in the house. I got the fire going good, ate some bread and had to run out to my son's real quick, then came home and started to work on wood. I got lucky! I found a really nice standing dead oak! It was a bit bigger than I normally try to cut down, but I did it anyway. I got over 1/2 a pickup load just from that! I didn't get too much more since it was getting late, and I didn't want to try and get out of the woods in the dark. I had to cut some of the tree in smaller pieces just so I could pick it up. I brought that wood in the house. And, my house is FINALLY starting to feel warm. Last time I checked, the temp had gotten up to 55* in the bedroom, and 62* in the rest of the house. More importantly, the basement feels warm, so that's helping.

I've got a pot roast in the oven. Dinner's going to be late, but that's helping to heat up the house as well. And since I didn't get my bananas today, I think I'm going to make apple crisp in the morning. Then, if I need to make anything else tomorrow night, I'll do the banana bread then.

I hate that kind of cold. I have been getting 2 to 3 eggs a day and when it was single digit highs for a week solid the eggs were frozen before I could get home from work. With all your plans for baking you have got me thinking about what I have to ( yes now I have to, you made it sound too good) make when I get home form work. Bread and brownies for sure.

It's not quite as cold this morning. It's actually up to 12*! And, while the bedroom was as cold this morning as it was yesterday, I didn't feel as cold. Maybe I'm getting used to it.

Glad it's warming up for you, we're used to cold here but I know it's a hardship when you live somewhere that never gets cold. Hope your heating bill isn't too high when this is all over!
