Yeah, Billy is sweet and a bit shy. He grew up around people and kids and they didn't allow bucking people or anything. He seems to have bonded to me a little. He would follow me with his eyes and occasionally the feet would follow too.

Driving today, we could appreciate our lush countyside. The hills look like they are covered in bright green velvet. The trees are bare of leaves. Cattle, deer and horses grazing on the nice tall grasses. We saw yellow mustard blooming in the vinyards. Lots of water too, since we just had a big storm. But for today we had sunshine.

Oh, he is cute! He'll make great babies.

Are those breakable plastic chain collars on your girls? If not, take 'em off, since the boy has horns....

He has such a sweet expression! :)

I've sometimes thought about mixing in boer blood. There are a lot of THEM around here! But I've got my little buckling, and hope to keep using him for a few years (if I can get some more does without having to retain doelings and wait).

You DO have lots of nice lush, green stuff! I am definitely jealous, watching for my little bits of rye to HOPEFULLY germinate before the spring stuff comes anyway!!!

Yes, those are plastic breakable chains. And they have been broken by the girls too.

Yeah, we thought he was a cutie too. He doesn't have the standard boer coloring, he looks like his mom.

We have our shortage of green in early summer, after we plow the field and before the planted stuff grows big enough. We usually try to have some greens growing in little fenced areas.

Awwww....so darling! I want goats! :love

It was overcast and chilly all day yesterday, but today dawned clear. I can't wait for the temp to rise so I can go weed.

Who knew that goats would eat a pine tree? I didn't....

It was a beautiful sunshiny day today. Freezing cold in the morning and again in the evening, but I was happy to be out in the sun.

We took the truck to get hay for the goats. A neighbor stopped by to see Billy.
Poor Billy is getting chased off by Blossom and he misses his momma and his friends. He cries so bitterly sometimes. He did continue to come closer and closer to me. After cleaning out the wet hay from the goats' hanging out area, I sat with them for a while. My girls couldn't get enough cuddling. Poor little Billy laid down in a high and sort of dry spot with his back to us and chewed his cud. After I sat with the girls for a long time, I decided to creep up to Billy from behind. He let me get close to him and I was able to pet him all over. Unfortunately I also discovered some sort of bug eggs in his very dense coat. He did seem to like the petting though. In the evening when I brought out the grains for the goats, I was able to get him to eat some out of my hand. Blossom kept trying to chase him off and I had to keep blocking her. But at least the little guy got some.

I managed to prune our roses in the front yard and got a lot of weeding done. I took two containers of weeds to the good neighbor for his chickens and put one bucket of little weeds with lots of bugs in the floor of the henhouse for the girls to scratch up. That should help disperse the droppings and the composting.

We had some of our canned green beans with our dinner tonight. It is so nice to be able to eat organic unsalted vegies without having to do a lot of prep work.
