Malcolm is so handsome!!

Those birds do look really good. You make it seem so easy. I like the idea of forcing them to get up and move. I bet that helps with their legs as well.

Have a great short day!!!

You give me hope for meaties come spring. I think I may be able to get over my creeped-out-ness, by what you have posted. Those are some good looking birds!

I hope you get through all that red tape for your dad.

we (I) plan on doing something like that next year, except I am planning on just ordering an order (like 25 or so) of certified males especially for butchering, but instead of being cornish crosses just being the aussies or orps or something. just cause i'm gonna eat em doesn't mean they can't look purty! :)
I used to think that about my eating birds as well, but you just can not match the amount of meat - high quality meat, that you get with a Cornish cross or other hybrid meat bird. Plus they finish in literally HALF the time.

If I had space to breed my own I would be trying a Cornish Delaware cross or an Orpington Dorking cross for meat.
ooooohh, now there's a thought. what about orpington jersey crosses? two big birds, and for my area this is important, winter hardy as well? cross them out, raise the babies for eating, oooh, the ideas I've got going in my head! i need pvc pipe!

We saw the attorney today to try and figure out all of the ins and outs of the laws around elder care. If you have not ever had to do this - just hope you never do. RED TAPE and rules as far as the eye can see. Paying an attorney that specializes in this area seems to be the best way to follow all of the rules and still take care of Dad.
We were just looking into the same - when my dad decided to place matters into His hands and went to be with mom and our Lord six days after mom left us.

My prayers are with and your family as I know this can be very stressful. :hugs

Farm, Malcolm is just as lovely as he was as a lamb!!!! What are you going to do with such a beautiful wether? It would be so hard to butcher such a sheep as that.

What are they eating in that second pic? Looks like radish, turnip or beet tops?

How in the world is everything so green there? Our trees are all changing colors and the fields are somewhat green after a few days of rain but it looks like full on spring there!

Your CX look fab! Free ranging makes all the difference, doesn't it?

WE WANT MORE PICSSSS!!!!!! :ya

Golly, you all make me want to process a chicken myself. Hubby laughs and says I'd never be able to do the deed. But, maybe if I got one of the Cornish X's I might be able to do it. Can they be raised along with regular pullets? (Lack of space, you know)
