I would love to feed the hay but our truck broke down (it was old and only thing we used it for was to haul stuff) and hubby forbids me to haul hay in our new van... :gig so that's why I'm stuck at the mercy of TSC for pellets...

as for rabbits not breeding I have the same issue with 2 gals of mine... someone suggested adding a spoonful of apple cidar vinegar in their water bottles each day for about a week... Said it puts them in the mood... I haven't' tried it yet but I have heard SEVERAL people recommend it so I'm planning on trying it soon when the weather gives a tad and I start to breed them again...
Have you tried Manzanola Alfalfa cubes. We get them for 7.99 50#. No waste and no mold like bales.

"Food prices hit a record high last month, surpassing the levels seen during the 2007-08 crisis, the UN's Food and Agricultural Organisation said on Wednesday.

The Rome-based organisation said the spike was not a crisis. But Abdolreza Abbassian, senior economist at the FAO, acknowledged that the situation was "alarming". He added: "It will be foolish to assume this is the peak."

The jump will increase fears about the repetition of the crisis of 2007-2008. However, poor countries have not so far seen the wave of food riots that rocked countries such as Haiti and Bangladesh two years ago, when agricultural commodities prices jumped.

The increase in food costs will also hit developed economies, with companies from McDonalds to Kraft raising retail prices. Higher food prices are also boosting overall inflation, which is above the preferred targets of central banks in Europe."

"Food inflation has risen to the top of the agenda for policymakers with memories still fresh of a 2008 food crisis, when soaring prices sparked riots in several countries, high inflation and in many cases deep trade deficits.

Countries including China, India and Brazil are battling with double-digit food inflation. "

"Soaring food prices in Asia are deepening concern among governments fearful of a repeat of the 2008 food crisis that triggered riots across the region and beyond.

A global alarm bell was sounded last week when the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation warned that millions of people were at risk after its world food price index broke through the peak 2008 levels to hit a record high.

The warning was swiftly echoed by World Bank president Robert Zoellick who said rising prices were "re-emerging as a threat to global growth and social stability"."

I saw over the weekend that Walley World butter went back up to $2.48 (up from $2/lb, glad I bought several at that price)...:barnie

On a side note, I added "build more shelves" to DH's honey-do list this morning. I'm afraid all the canned goods I have stored are about to collapse the cabinets I have. :/

"Global food prices hit a record high last month, outstripping the levels that sparked riots in several countries in 2008, and key grains could rise further, the United Nations' food agency said this week.

Policymakers are concerned that, if unchecked, rising food prices could stoke inflation, protectionism and unrest.""

"The Rome-based Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) warned last week that world market prices for rice, wheat, sugar, barley and meat will remain high or register significant rises in 2011 - perhaps replicating the crisis of 2007-2008.

Rob Vos, director of development policy and analysis at the U.N.'s Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), told IPS that higher food prices are already affecting many developing countries.

He said countries like India and a number of other East and South Asian countries are facing double-digit inflation, mainly caused by higher food prices - alongside higher energy prices."

Yes, it is. But it is January and we have time to prepare. Thinking of increasing your garden space? Do it. Considering getting chickens, duck or quail? Do it. Your church discussing a garden ministry? Do it.

I'm trying to think of what I can do. Definitely a Sam's run once taxes are in and Natural Grocer's to stock up a bit more. I'll feel safer with a few more months food stocked up. At least let me ride out the riots in the comfort of my home.
