It took a while to get any fruit (I'm impatient) but the lemon from seed has grown 3 years and just got it's first bloom! The orange, another Lemon and tangerine I got from burgess they are cheep and will send you small trees but they do have a one year guarantee and will send you a replacement if it dies! I have had one ripe lemon very flavorful and it has about 20-30 unripe oranges on one as well... it's only 2 years old since I've gotten it from them! I was pretty impressed!

I'm sure the production will pick up greatly once it's older... I grew some mini pomegranates from seed... and have gotten about 5 ripe ones so far... they are 2 years old... but I do have 4 plants but they are very small about a foot or so tall in small gallon pots... I'm going to replant them in something a little bigger see if that helps them fill out more and bloom...

As for the banana it sill has yet to bloom but sure it pretty... I'm hoping we get some fruit this year from it!

All of my trees were either grown from a seed or a very small seedling to start with... it took about 2 years for my first fruit which isn't bad for fruit trees I thought... my apples I planted in the ground are no where near blooming... and they are the same age as my potted plants...

As for the work you have the initial investment of pots (the bigger ones are a tad pricey) and in the winter you need to water them at least once a week... but lucky for me all the citrus trees are EASY to grow and are very forgiving... Summer I plop my plants outside and let nature take care of them giving them a drink from time to time if it hasn't rained in a while...

lets just say i dont want to be around for the much feared "Doritos uprising"....

that will make egypt look like a walk in the park. once you get all the different "Itos" food groups factions working together it will take on a life of its own.

thats all i'm saying.

"Pack up the family! I hear they still have chili cheese Fritos in New Jersey!"

""There is not one crop you can point to that is without supply problems," said Steve Nicholson, a commodity procurement specialist for International Food Products Corp. in St. Louis. "Production is not keeping up with demand, exacerbating the global food crisis."

The price of corn, used to make livestock feed and ethanol, jumped 89 percent in the past year, reaching a 30-month high on Feb. 7. Soybeans are up 54 percent from a year ago, and wheat yesterday touched the highest since August 2008. Global food prices rose to a record in January as costs to buy dairy, sugar and cereals increased, and high prices may persist for the next several months, the United Nations reported Feb. 2. "

I'm growing some Dutch Bantam Sweet Corn this year. Hope the ducks like it :D

I also hope they like quinoa and amaranth. If not, I guess they are just going to be miserable because I am not going to pay a small fortune for feed. Not sure how much I can produce on my little lot, but I am giving it the old college try.

Plus if the cereal/doritos/dew zombies come to my house, they wont recognize any of the stuff growing in my yard as food :D

The biggest risk I have is some PMSing mall rats sniffing out my chocolate stash.

LOL! Most wouldn't recognize anything in my pantry as food! Or at least they wouldn't have a clue how to cook a meal from it.
