My Christmas Journey -Part 3

Lovey, I want you to follow me. I lifted my head and trudged after the sleighbell sound. We went down the hall and into the office. Now I want you to find the book in the second bookcase, third shelf, second from the right. I obediently took the book, went back to the kitchen for another cup of coffee and sat back down in my chair.

The book was old and smelled slightly musty. The spine was torn and broken, no longer able to hold the pages securely and the corners were worn and rounded from use. My fingers traced the faded gold lettering Hymni Ecclesiae debossed against a formerly navy colored background. I vaguely recalled the book but couldnt quite remember the exact circumstances that resulted in its residence.

The voice interrupted my musing, Please turn to hymn number sixty-four. When you find it, read the familiar words aloud slowly as if you had never sung them before. Finding the page, I slowly read aloud

O holy night. The stars are brightly shining.
It is the night of the dear Saviours birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.

I paused. That last line written in black ink on the pages of my life. In sin and error pining. Longing for something better, something different. Dissatisfaction that there was something more I was missing. The timidness of searching and not knowing what I was looking for, always unsure. That was me. In sin and error pining.

Well, I'll have a week off between Christmas and New Year's again this year. I was just reading back through my journal and we have an almost identical game plan again this year. We're taking off for 3 of those days to a secluded cabin to reconnect, refresh, and plan for the upcoming year and future.

Plans will include financial, giving, moving, school, self-sufficiency and reevaluating our 5 year plan. I'm excited because so much didn't go according to plan this year...

Our Christmas present to ourselves came earlier this week! We treated ourselves to a featherbed! It is like sleeping on a heavenly cloud. Amazing! I had slept on one about ten years ago and never forgot the experience. It's really warm too!

My Christmas Journey -Part 4

A tear slid down my cheek as I continued speaking aloud. Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth. I stopped. Till. Until. A change in direction. A course of action changed by an event. The needle of the compass swinging from North to Southwest.

I held the hymnal more snugly and reread aloud. The world in sin and error pining TILL He appeared. You mean this child had the power to change the world with His appearance? The power to change me? To save me? Could it truly be?

The icy arrow evaporated in a flash of heat and hope. My Spirit felt its worth. This was not a fairy tale told so often in December that it had turned stale in the ears. This was not a historical abstraction. This was not a twenty-two minute Sunday sermon. This was a Holy Moment. This was a take off your shoes for you are standing on Holy Ground Moment. This was a star-guiding, shepherds abiding, Angels singing, gift bringing Moment.

I wanted to laugh and clap and sing all at the same time. Is this what you wanted me to know? The worth? My dear child. Lovey, this is just the beginning! And with that, day crested the horizon. I carefully laid the hymnal on the trunk beside my chair. Time to be in the kitchen getting breakfast.

Started another batch of kraut tonight in my new crock! I think I'm going to have to start doubling my recipe!!!

Went out yesterday and did a little meander through the yard. Picked some lettuce and carrots from under the snow in the garden and peeked in the greenhouse. I can't remember when I planted stuff in there but I haven't looked at it since I planted. I figured everything was dead with all of the super cold weather we've been having... Nope :D I've got seedlings! I'm so excited!

MyT Man got a 10 lb fake ham thing from his work party so I need to figure out something to do with that if anyone has some ideas to throw my way...

Got a new light bar for above the vanity to replace the 80's brass one per our new realtor that we'll be working with. Also had a couple out to look at the house last night that MyT Man knows. They're in a special situation and we're going to see if between us and our mortgage broker we might be able to work out a win-win before we sign with the new realtor... We'll see.

Did you hear we're supposed to get dumped on Christmas Eve? Everything's pretty much melted by us.
