Hey SD! I'm not 100% on the Farsi, I guess it just is one of those things that is there.

We heard back from the banker and it's complicated. Basically, we qualify but it would mean rearranging things financially in such a way that after we were moved, we wouldn't be able to stay within our budget. This has been a huge disappointment. Unless a miracle were to happen, we will be here another year and a half.

It's been really tough emotionally this week because mentally, we'd already moved on and were counting days and house shopping and studying up. Now we've got to mentally buckle down again and make the best with what we have. No complaints but it's just tough to have worked so hard and be so close and still fall short.

So as of right now, in the midst of grieving and getting ready to pick up the pieces and go on with life, this is what we've come up with for the following year and a half... subject to change!

I'm getting another flock of chickens!!! I think we'll wait 'til the end of Feb. or into March and get some of last years hens. I'm not waiting on chicks. Then in the fall, we'll either sell them or butcher them as I don't want to overwinter another flock. We're ramping up garden plans and I've got the garden set up on the MEN trial program that lets you plot and graph everything. Should be ordering seeds later today.

AND what goes around, comes around. Someone dear to us who found out about our situation has donated the $ for the chickens and the new garden seeds!!!

Oh my goodness, you sent me YOUR garden seeds! Do you need them back? You poor dear!

I know what it is like to have your plans stalled like that....very frustrating. When we bought our last house, we were having it built (tract home) and it took a lot longer than they expected (9 months longer! Those seemed like the longest nine months because we were all boxed up and ready to go. It was like life was on hold. I can totally feel for you and know what that is like.

I don't suppose there is any other way to work it out? Maybe something will present itself while you wait....sometimes after the fact you are glad when plan A doesn't work out because plan B is so much better.

Yes, it is always times like these that we look back on and see the reason later. There is always joy in the discovery of a new adventure but there is grieving in letting go of one too! We have been through enough large things in life to be content in this knowledge.

The seeds I sent were meant for you SD! Someone has come along and provided a more than generous budget for my garden. That's how stewardship works! You cast your bread upon the water and it comes back to you ten-fold. More than you could ever hope or dream. It is the faithfulness of daily small things that add up to the biggies in life.

What a dear friend you are becoming, FF......you are wonderful!

I agree about the giving....that is how we always felt about the dog volunteering. We have recieved so much by giving, more than we ever dreamed. The six month supply of dog food we just recieved as a gift is just one example of amazing things that have happened to us because of giving to others ........

In our case, we are often giving to animals, not necessarly people, but I think it is all the same to God. He cares for all his creatures, not just us.

Yes! I had one 2 years ago and our neighbors cried when we had to sell the flock. We had ended up with about 12 hens and our rooster Cedric. We just let them free range in the back yard with the dogs and locked them in the coop at night. The neighbors will be so excited when we tell them!

Sure! Anything I can rustle up on Craigslist or from my contacts that is already laying. :D I'll probably get a couple from different sources so I can have a mixed flock. I just like all the different colors and shapes. I would love a couple astralorps, a couple of buffs, some EE's, something black and white, and I've always thought dorkings looked really cool but they're not common around here.

Oh wait, the one thing I don't want is Barnevelders which is what I had before. They don't lay much. Oh, the other thing I really don't want is anything with feathered legs. Never been a big fan of those. And definately no silkies. Hmmm... maybe I'm pickier than I thought!
