The place I work on weekends is right in the heart of campus right across from a bar. It was interesting last night watching 50 officers suit up in riot gear to deal with riots and craziness if UK had won the basktball game. They had the street blocked off for about an hour with helicopters doing fly overs. It looked like a war zone.

My two tasks for today are to research raw diets for our 2 dogs and homemade canned dog food. Paying $30 for a 44lb bag of food is just crazy. My other task is finding an on-line manual for our smoker and making a plan for our 2 frozen turkeys, three ducks, and some salmon.

:clap I just got to spend twenty minutes in the garden! I think that's how I'm going to get it done this year. Twenty minutes here and fifteen minutes there... Planted more peas, carrots, turnips, and parsnips. Turnips and parsnips are new for me. I'm also doing bush peas rather than climbing peas this year. No trellising ~at least in theory. The earth smelled so good as I was working.

Yup, they went last weekend. I guess 3 young guys who couldn't speak English came and got them so I have no idea if they were trying to ask DH anything about them. They were gone when I got home. I've been checking CL for some more that I will inspect more carefully but haven't seen anything.

When you inspect them look for moist, more pronounced vents. Thats how I cull my hens from my flock.

Chickens are also like people in that you can tell a lot about their true age by looking at their hands - or feet in the chickens case! Young chickens have young (how to describe this best ...) fresh looking feet. Older hens have feet that are more gnarled and show the wear and tear of age more.

Not an exact Science for sure, but just another bullet in the awareness gun. ;)

Thanks for the tips! It might be a bit before I'm ready to delve into the chicken project again. Gotta finish the garden.

Today I only got a three hour nap so I'm not feeling very well. I'm feeling very worn out and I think some sort of spring allergy is trying to get me.

I did get 3 dozen more plants (Pak choy, brussel sprouts, broccoli, and cauliflower) at the seed store today along with red and sweet onions. I was able to get everything in the ground. Also got sweet peas planted along the chain link fence going up the driveway between us and the neighbors we don't like. Maybe that will put a pretty and fragrant visual barrier between us.

I can't believe how quickly time is going. I've been getting really discouraged the last little while because no matter how well I try to take care of myself, it seems I'm just exhausted and then no matter how well I plan my week in advance and manage my time, I always feel behind. I try to keep reminding myself why we are doing what we are doing right now and that the results will be worth it. Sometimes it's just putting your head down and putting one foot in front of the other.

I know how you feel. There are days when I look at what all I want to accomplish, and it just feels like I'll never get done. But, every time I get even a little bit done, that means it's that much less to do. :hugs
