He's a mess! Why do I totally fall in love with problem dogs? Maybe because I love a challenge. Last year he was getting out several times a day and I added some fence to the top of the fence and he stayed in for months. I can't say that anymore. I just don't want him getting out on the road - would NOT be a good thing. I really DON'T want to do hot wire - mostly because I'm not gifted with electricity... and the first time it went down I wouldn't know how to fix it. Maybe Ill just hang a 50 lb weight around his neck! That's a joke - nobody call the SPCA on me!

Ummm....I tied one of my very large very strong dogs to a cinder block inside her fence for a couple days once to break her from jumping it...she WAS getting in the road. I took it off after 2 days and we sat on the back porch and had a long talk about how she shouldn't do naughty things that could hurt her and she slurped my ear and never did it again soooo...I ain't callin anybody!!!

Lol my chow mix started pushing the boundary limits once and crossing the property line (which is a stone wall, he knows bis boundaries) and I put him on a leash for 2 days. Never did it again!

Hm I have no actual idea what to do about a dog that jumps fences that high... But I hope you can keep him where he belongs!

LOL! I had a really bad little terrier once that my daughter drug home. That dog was an absolute houdini and could get out of anything. "They" actually make something called an "anti-jump" harness... and it works! It's a crazy nylon contraption that goes around their back legs and their neck and it doesn't let them extend their body enough to stretch up and jump. Cowboy would need one made of chain or he'd eat through it, lol.

I had a jumping PIG once, that needed tying up in the pen to keep him in it. Not for long though, we bought him to butcher.

FEM, I've heard of invisible fences and was wondering if that could help you with Cowboy?

I have some 12 wk old goat kids that go over a 4' fence without hesitation!! I swear they will NOT be missed when I take them to auction today. Even put a cattle panel next to the wood fence -- on outside -- needed on inside. They did as usual, jump, touch top rail and now propel over the panel First attempts were iffy but, took about 3 jumps to perfect it. Never had a group this persistant. They don't "go" anywhere but, do jump on anything in the yard....car, truck, tractor, etc. I'm done with it.

In fact, waiting for rain to subside so I can load them for the trip.
Auction @ 1 & then to work @4. Hmmmm.....tight. May be late for work.

My husband said if you make something for the top of the fence that comes inward at a 45 degree angle, it should keep him from trying to jump out. You know, like they do in prison fences? Lol he said you could use a piece of wood to hold a couple of wires across the top... I'm bad at explaining visual things and I have a headache. Does that make sense at all?

It does make sense. When I did a did a different section of the fence I added welded wire to the top of the existing fence. The welded wire is jyst stiff enough to hold itself up- but not strong enough to hold his weight so he can climb it. So far the repair I did is holding him.

Yeah I'd like to see him jump over electricity...we will need video for that FEM if you decide on the electric invisible fence if this doesn't work.
