It was a bit! Our (not Irish) hostess was an absolute cow and after she snapped at me in the morning for asking for more milk for our coffee (she only provided samples), I decided against enquiring about the extra guest.
His sight is getting a little better every few days. His distance vision is better than his up-close vision. It's still fuzzy. But, he's driving and feeling pretty comfortable doing so. He's supposed to start a new job next week and will be out of town from M - F for training. That makes me a bit uncomfortable, but I guess it will be a good test for his ability to be a big boy and take care of himself. It's not just the eyesight that makes me nervous about him being gone -it's about his blood sugar control (or lack of) also. Sigh....
Things at work are C.R.A.Z.Y and will be for the next 5 weeks. And then - a week after our summer session ends we also have a big gala to recognize all our students' accomplishments. I've got to get that arranged too. Thankfully we have a local Mexican restaurant that we've worked with for years and they know the routine. They cater, serve and clean up after themselves and all I really have to do is hand them the credit card! That just leaves us to do the setup and decorating, get the slide show together, print certificates for the students, arrange for a speaker and deal with the "executive team" that we invite every year. Last year, for the first time after 12 years of invitations, a board member came to the dinner. He was recognized, ate his free meal and then complained that there was no coffee and cake. ARGH! I'm sure he has no idea how tight our budget is.... maybe we'll invite him again and tell him it's 'pot luck' and that he's in charge of dessert!!
Went outside Sunday morning to find a dead goat. Absolutely NO idea what happened to that goat. She kidded on Mother's Day. She is the one I was worried about because she was so small and this was her first freshening. She was wormed after kidding, had bright pink membranes, was slick and shiny and had an appetite as big as a horse. Still confuzzled about that one! Thankfully, her baby is eating food pretty well cuz she wants NO part of a bottle.
Not getting much from the bush beans so I'm thinking about pulling them up and planting okra in their place. I've got some yard-long beans growing along the fence so hoping they'll pick up the slack. Not real sure that'll happen because there are only a few plants - but when each bean is 18 inches long it doesn't take too many to get a nice meal.
Thanks! Baby is doing well and getting friendlier by the minute. It makes a difference who is supplying the food, for sure.
Yep, busier than a one-armed paper hanger at work these days. Literally worked from the minute I got to work right up to the minute I left to come home today. Thank goodness it's only this crazy for 6 weeks.
Tomorrow we leave for a field trip at 7 am...(which means I get to work at 6am) drive 3 - 4 hours depending on traffic. We have lunch, sit through an admissions presentation and then take a walking tour of University of Texas at Austin for 1.5 hours. Only gonna be 99 degrees tomorrow in Austin... geeze louise! The things I do for this job - argh!
We won't leave Austin until 2:30ish and then 3.5 - 4 hours home. It's gonna be a long day. We don't have the funds to feed the kids more than one meal so I picked up a bunch of snacks. Not cheap to feed 35 students, but even with just one income I still feel blessed so I sprang for the snacks. Some oranges, cheese, peanuts, and cookies. Protein, fruit and dessert, lol. Not great, but a whole lot better than nothing!
Kinda dreading tomorrow and looking forward to it at the same time.
After tomorrow we'll have two weeks checked off of our 6 week hell schedule, lol!
Glad DH feels he can move forward. WE can never experience his sight/lack thereof but, he must feel ok with the task at hand. Maybe he will work more with sugar levels, after what he has been through of late. Maybe. (Men ! )
I could do haunted but, only while awake.
Now, as to the "don't wanna" feelings --- it's so normal for those of us who have livestock & farms. NONE of us take vacations & mostly due to not having anyone to help with the animals. We really NEED to have time off to regenerate. Often only a day or two can help. Milking does make it harder to find help.
I have always felt it would be most helpful to have several living close by that had similar animals to share a day or two of helping for one another. My daughter lives here on my farm and will do water/feed chores for a day or so but, works FT and can't take on but so much. She will not milk. LOL With summer, pasture main diet, I could arrange an overnight but......need a place to go.
Farm sitting by knowledgeable animal people could pay well. Problem is that many "farmers" can afford to leave if they have to pay a sitter. Animals can be a $$$ pit.
Even tho a long day, I hope you can enjoy the field trip.
