One of my friends who lives too far away wants to be a farmer (they have to move first, they aren't even allowed to have chickens where they live). We were talking yesterday and I was thinking wow.... This would be SO much easier if we lived near each other and helped each other out! I think we have one person who would feed our animals if we went out of town, so I'm at least thankful for that. Honestly it's my husband's psycho dog I wouldn't know what to do with!

It sure would help to have reliable like-minded folks close enough to help each other!

Today was brutal. I got to work at 6am and we got back to the parking lot at 7pm. In between was 8ish hours on a bus with 25 kiddos. We had a few no-shows and I wasn't disappointed! The temp in Austin today was 99 and the humidity was 48% for a heat index of 109ish. I thought our advisor was going to pass out. I had to discreetly stop the tour guide by asking him some questions so that she could catch up. I was carrying a bag with water, and some wet rags wrapped around a cold pack and I gave her one to cool off with. It's funny cuz she's 25 years younger than me and even with a bum leg I did better than she did! She's kinda round and has darker skin than me so she had a bit of a struggle. Plus our tour guide was a horrendous! He did a great job but he wanted us to see everything...argh! He said that if we walked "FAST" we could see more. No sir MR - you lost me at "FAST"! LOL!!

We had one student have a heat problem. I'm usually the chief medical officer on field trips sooooo - I had a cold pack in my bag that I put on the back of her neck. I had some orange wedges for the kids so we squeezed a little juice in her water just so she could get some vitamins and electrolytes from the juice. I told her to sip it slowly but she drank it a little too fast and it came back up - argh. But, she felt better after that. We stopped and got her a sprite and she managed to sip slowly on that... and started feeling better. By the time we got home she was fine.

I'm tired and my stoopid foot hurts. It's been 9 months since I injured this foot... enough already!

Sounds like you had a good day. You already know the heat and humidity. It's the price we pay for living in the great state of Texas. :thumbsup

It was a successful field trip. I do know the heat and humidity because I spend a long time in it and I know how to deal with it. Unfortunately my co-workers and most of my students do not. Out of 25 students and 3 staff I was the only one who carried (5) bottles of water and some cold wet rags. The others were like---Ms, you're carrying a lot of weight in that bag. My response - but it gets lighter the more water I drink, lol. Maybe its just because I'm old, but I believe in being prepared.

DH is at a 'training' on his Continuous Glucose Monitoring System. It will keep tabs on his blood sugar and send the results to his insulin pump which will then automatically adjust his basal insulin rate. I sure hope this thing works!

Hope that works out for your husband! When does he start his new job?

The little girl that got sick told me exactly that - bless her heart. She says she 'never' goes outside! Hard to believe... Our advisor is, mmmm, not in the best physical shape. Yea - I don't love it - but at least I try to increase my chances of survival, lol! Ya gotta drink! Probably didn't help that we had lunch before we went into the heat. I tried to tell 'em to eat light. We had a huge buffet at our disposal so a lot of 'em filled up on pizza and mac and cheese. I tried to get 'em to eat salad and fruit, lol.. Didn't have many takers... :barnie

DH's eye doc appt. didn't go so great today... grrrr. We knew there were side effects from this surgery, but whaddya do? One of the side effects is a cataract. So, in less than a month he's got a cataract in that eye. He's also got a cataract in his "good" eye. The best they can get the vision in the left eye is 20/80 and that will be with a new pair of glasses. He should be at 20/30 with the new glasses in his right eye.

He's supposed to go to training for the new job next week. In fact, he's supposed to drive to Austin on Sunday. I guess if this job works out he'll have to break it to them that he needs surgery on that eye. Surgeon says he'd want DH to take a week off. Not sure that'll happen. He does surgery on Wednesdays and DH thinks he could go back to work on Monday...we'll see. Not even sure when we will schedule the surgery. He's going to have it - whether he loses this job or not....

Geeze louise - will this ever end?????

It will end eventually...hang in there! Glad you were on that trip, sounds like she would have just been sick and miserable if not for you because nobody else has any sense when it comes to the summer heat...and from Texans...I'm ashamed!! Notice I didn't say surprised...this coming up generation is physically pretty lazy since all of them generally have phones or game controllers glued to their hands from birth. Anyway, I hope all works out for your DH and you sis! BIG HUGS to both of ya!
