Mini and Bay - I do appreciate all the words of wisdom. I know ya'll have lived it, and know the reality of the situation.

I'm not entering this blindly for sure. My mom kept HER mom for about 5 years. Gramma was paranoid/schizophrenic and THAT was HARD! THIS is inconvenient. I did my share of 'gramma-sitting'. We would find butcher knives under her pillow...had to put alarms on all the doors because she would go 'walk-a-bout' in the middle of the night. All the cops in town knew her. It would take hours to convince her that her pills weren't poison...

They had a lady come in everyday to take care of her. Wonderful lady! Gramma was devious too! Always telling whopping stories about her caretaker. Stories that we knew weren't true because she would tell us the lady was a witch and/or devil worshiper and she could walk through walls, held satanic rituals in house, and made lampshades out of human skin. Totally bonkers. I could live with bonkers as long as they were sweet! Gramma wasn't sweet. So sad....and it broke my mother's heart to see HER mother that way.

My parents lived that nightmare with gramma and it made them pro-active. They have pre-paid their funeral/burial expenses. I have all pertinent powers of attorney. In fact, it has me thinking and planning too. I want to check into signing my house over to my children pretty soon. I don't want them to lose everything when it's MY turn to have alternative living arrangements.

Today is another day. I have to catch up with some outside work. And - OH MY GOSH - the 'skeeters are ridiculous. I took Gracie out to potty this morning and at one point I couldn't even see her on the end of her leash cuz of the black cloud of skeeters! (almost that bad)

I want to put the goats all back to their normal pens. I need to put the tarps back on the bucks hoop house first. Need to mow out there in hopes that the skeeters won't have such so many hiding places. So much to do - so little time!

My grandmother did that but it was brief, during a hospital stay thank goodness. Told everyone the nurses were trying to murder her. She was also convinced there were rabbits everywhere. I don't even know on that one...

Eww on the skeeters. Good luck getting the goats taken care of, and getting rid of some skeeters! When do you start breedingm, must be soon?

I am there with you!!!!!! My burial needs are done & site waiting for me (I'm in no hurry :p) so she only has to make a phone call for pick up. House/farm, I'm looking into various situations for that but, will have it resolved within 2-3 years at most. Kinda waiting to see what DGD is gonna do with education beyond high school. That's 2 yrs out. Heck, I may sell and move on at that time. :rolleyes:probably not, buy maybe smaller. POA in place.

I do not want her to have to do what I did. I'm a little ornery, could get spicy

Thrilled that you do know to look for "the signs" that your own life is being lost. That doesn't help anyone. :old

Yeah, mom would tell me about visitors and where they had gone -- yep, never saw them while I was out mowing the yard.

When my mom was hospitalized a couple years ago she got "that way" too. She does have a family history ya know? (I told my DH and kids to watch out - I might turn in a few years, lol!) She was convinced the nurses were out to get her and that they were all in cahoots. There were other issues between her and my brother...all kinds of stressors. Turns out she was severely dehydrated and in danger of kidney failure. Some of that accounts for the behavior at that time...some of it not so much,

The neighbor that's going to help with them is coming down this afternoon to meet with them. Guess I better get 'em outta bed before then! Dad's been up, and had breakfast, but decided to lay back down for a few minutes. I think he ran on pure stubbornness and will power yesterday when he stayed up all day. Today is another day!

Cowboy is driving me insane! Gracie is in the midst of her heat cycle and he's literally trying to tear down walls to get her. DH asked me the other day if we could band him. WTH???? Hmmmm...

Hahahah oh my! I don't think Cowboy would like that!

My mom used to work in a nursing home. She said they call it sundowning, in the evening/at night old folks get a little crazy. Especially being in strange surroundings. I know I hate being in the hospital, it's kind of a weird/uncomfortable place.

Just checking in to say hi, and to catch up.
We've also been there, done that, plus I did it for a living. WeI'm so glad things seem to be settling down a little bit, and that you took the time to write things out for your dad. I hadn't even thought about the mosquitoes you must have. I've thought of you a lot the last few days. Hugs and prayers and know you're not alone. Wish we were closer to help. :hugs

Thanks ya'll! I slept in my bed last night. Kinda felt like I was abandoning them, but I need to remember that up until a week ago they took care of themselves. But, I still want to make life easier for them.

Not much else to report. No gardening going on. I'm not doing much more than basic care/milking for the critters. Cowboy needs to be in a padded room....no wait...he would destroy that too. I've been around dogs all my life, but have never seen one that totally loses his mind when a bitch is in heat. Geeze! I'm thinking neutering is unavoidable. I am one of those who doesn't really like to alter my dogs - I think they live longer, healthier lives with all their hormones intact. But, this dog will hurt himself trying to get to Maddie or Gracie. Can't have that so we just might have to take our chances with the neuter. At least he's over a year old which is better than doing itty, bitty puppies like they do these days.

As soon as the sun goes fully up and the skeeters back down just a little I'm going to move the goats back to their original pens. It'll make milking a lot easier. Oh... I do have a little bit of good news. I've had a goat that has been a poor-doer for a long time. Actually thought about culling her but I pulled out my last big effort and wormed her with two different wormers. Gave her an injection of Ivomec plus one day and followed it up with Valbazen the next day. I fully intended to follow it up in 10 days with another two doses - but then a hurricane happened. So, it's been about 2+ weeks since her double dose. I checked her eyelids yesterday and for the first time in a long, long time they are PINK!! Not even pale pink - but a nice robust pink....and she's gained some weight. After I had done the double dose worming I've gotta say that she looked worse for a few days...but she has made a turnaround and I'm glad for that.

I hear the oldsters stirring so I needa get busy Happy Labor Day ya'll!
