Heck with it, I plant early! Forecasted lows tonight and tomorrow are 38 and 37, so I'll bring in my flats of seedlings. After that, I'm going to start putting (more) stuff in the ground! :celebrate

I checked on my garden this afternoon. I sowed 6 zucchini seeds, 2 of which came up… and both got munched :somad It's bad enough I have to replant the non-growers, but the ones that did make it out of the ground as well? Dang bugs! I'm going to put glass jars upside down over them from now on, until they are big enough to survive insect attacks. I have to have zucchinis.

@sumi - that stinks! I'm a bug hater too! I've got some success stories in the garden this year and some not so successful ventures, lol. I've got tons of green tomatoes - so :fl that they get to ripen on the vine!!

DH should be home tonight - yay!

I wanted to get more done this past week - but I didn't, lol. Taking on everything while he was gone added a little extra chore time to my day. I was kinda surprised. His animal chores are to feed the quail, the meat birds, and the ones in the brooder. His house chores are mostly to take out the trash. But, it still added so much time to my chore time...geeze. I must be getting old or slow or both, lol!

I was really planning on making up for lost time this weekend, but I've gotta work tomorrow and Sunday we'll be going to see the old folks. So, not much weekend time. I'm gonna have to squeeze some more mulching in there somewhere though...gotta just do it!

It's getting close to time to list the baby crop for sale. I can't do it this weekend cuz I'm not gonna be home enough. Maybe Memorial Day weekend would be better. I'll add it to my list.

I can't believe I'm saying this - but we NEED rain. I'm watering a couple times a week now. That'll start adding significantly to the electric bill if I have to do it all season.

Took a good look at my meat birds yesterday. I've got two roos and the rest pullets. One of the pullets doesn't look like she got the good end of the Cornish cross. She's a bit smaller and she's got buff coloring on her neck. Could possibly pardon that one cuz she might turn into a decent layer and maybe a good cross for meat? I dunno...

Lucy annoyed the heck outta me this morning and ya really shouldn't do anything to tick me off before 6am! She's a pretty decent milker but never volunteers to go on the stand. I have to take her by the collar and walk her into the milk room and bribe her to jump on the stand most of the time. But nope - not this morning. She shoved Cameo outta the way, nearly knocked me down and tromped on a few babies to get through the milk room door and up on the stand. And, I don't milk her in the mornings....evenings only... and only when her udder looks tight. She shouldn't oughta have done that this morning. I snatched that gal offa the stand and escorted her to the door and sent her on the way with a bop to the butt! Stoopid goat!

Conan is turning into quite the ladies man (and kinda sorta the man's man too, lol) He is constantly blubbering through the fence at the gals - and the gals like him. This morning he was blubbering through the fence to the wether, lol. And the wether liked it too! :ep

It's so frustrating when you try to grow stuff. And I'm late with the garden as it is! I put more seeds out there this morning and this time I'm planning to cover the seedlings until they are big enough to survive a bug lunch. Fingers crossed for your tomatoes! I eyed the plants in the garden centre yesterday, but I put some seeds out a few days ago, so I think I'll wait for them and :fl

Ahh Conan! That's hilarious. Do kikos breed year round ?

Silly Lucy! Every time I open the gate to go in with my big girls, Mimosa tries to fly out and jump on the stand. My husband gets nervous like she's going to take off. I tell him to chill out, she knows where the grain is!
