We had our big competition with five other schools today.... for the first time in 15 years we didn't win overall champs. Guess the streak had to come to an end eventually.
Sorry to hear that, but gosh, 15 years is a long run!

Stacking hay......making steps so you can stack it higher...…
I can only go 5 bales (and a pallet) high in my red shed - that's still a lot taller than me, lol. But, I was pleased to discover that I can get 'em up there without help (yay me!). Any taller and I'd be making stairs out of hay bales and walking 'em up. (So now that I've bragged on myself I won't mention how sore I am, lol!)

Still need to work on electrifying the pig pen even more. The big guy hasn't gone under the gate any more at all since I lowered the wire - but this morning one of the gals is out. So, I'm gonna need hot wire outside and inside I guess. I tell ya - I've been liking these pigs cuz they're not really much trouble - but if I keep having to work on fencing they might reach a 'trouble' level that I'm not gonna be happy with. GRRRR!

Need to get into the jungle - I mean garden - and take out the spent plants and make room for fall stuff. Never ending chores these days. How crazy would it be to wish for winter so I could have a break, lol!

I'm having escape goat issues. I know how you feel! Bellini's baby can jump a 4 foot fence. So, weaning is going well, lol!

When can you start a fall garden there?

I probably still have time to put in more summer stuff - if I was willing to get out there and do it, lol. I sure need to do something in there...it really is waaaaay overgrown. The winter squash and red rippers have taken over! It's a hazard to walk through without squishing something or having vines reach out and grab ya. It's so stinking hot that I pick the chores that I have to do these days. And, next on the list is to get the rest of the hay unloaded. I'll do some more of that tonight. Not guaranteeing I'll finish it! My shoulders are screaming at me today...guess that's what I get for trying to be macho and stacking hay higher than my head, lol.

Somebody needs to tell my head how old I am...my body has it figured out but my head keeps saying "don't be a wuss - you can do this" LOL!

Went to see dad around lunchtime and he looked so much better than when I was there Thursday. Talked to his caregiver and she says he's pretty good in the mornings and up to lunch time but after that it's bed for the rest of the day. I am rarely there after lunch so maybe I need to pick a time in the afternoon one day next week and see how he is then. He was more confused - but at least physically he seemed better.

I think I'm gonna start rendering some pig fat this afternoon while it's too hot to be outside.

Happy Saturday ya'll!

Ha Ha! I can say that as I'm sitting here munching on the guy we butchered Wednesday, lol! I was getting some fat ready to render and decided to fry up some of the bits that still had meat clinging to 'em....kinda like cracklings and oh so tasty!

Picked a bunch more figs tonight. It was almost dark so I need to go out tomorrow morning and pick some more. What I picked tonight filled 4 more dehydrator trays. Love me some figs!!

I should have a doe kidding sometime in the next month or so. Her udder is decent sized, but ligaments are still there...low...but there. I'm trying to give her to the good neighbor next door. They love goat milk and his daughter wants to have her very own milk goat...don't think dad's going for it though. :( Need to keep working on him I guess!

I have a lot to do tomorrow and unfortunately I feel a sore throat coming on. Might be from this African dust coming through or from my co-worker who has been sickly. But, whatever it is I'm about to give it a glass of wine, put it to bed and tuck it in for the night!

Sore throat didn't disappear overnight...ugh. I've got too much to do so I guess I'll try to ignore it and hope it goes away. Today is major laundry today along with mowing the yard, picking more figs, unloading the rest of the hay, moving some chickens, butchering some quail and checking with the neighbor who is grinding the rest of the pig today to see if he needs an extra set of hands. Guess I should get busy....ugh.
