I ask for a non refundable $50 deposit for goats if they want to be sure they get that goat. If they want to take their chances that it won't be sold before they can pick it up, then they don't leave a deposit. Most people I have sold to so far wanted bottle babies so they picked them up pretty quickly. I have 3 kids that the people didn't want bottle babies and they put deposits down.

No harm in using the vet to disbud. I did it for the first 10 kids this year. These next kids I'm going to do myself though. I have to get over it and just do it. I have the iron and I have done it before. But the ones I did last year did grow scurs and had to be disbudded a second time. Hopefully I can get it right this year.

And glenolam, you had the guts to jump in and try it. Everyone has to have a first time for stuff like that. You can't expect perfection during your learning curve!

By the way, lice is VERY common on goats. So the vet probably didn't even think anything of it. From what I have heard, it is hard to keep them lice free.

I've had lice on the goats a few times, but it just shocked me that the little kids had it and so did everyone else. They honestly didn't have any of the signs I'd expect to see. So tonight I'll be their best friends and give them all shots of ivomec. :/

I'm actually really glad I had the vet do these two. It was nice to watch littluns being done.

The X30 I have belongs to a friend of mine and she said I'm welcome to it whenever, but I'm torn about getting one of my own. I've decided that if I do buy my own I want an X50 - the only reason being you can get the two different tips so I can disbud Opi's kids as well as my larger ones. Either that or continue to use my friends X30 and pay someone else to do the little kids. If I go that route, though, I'll definitely up the cost of those kids to help absorb that awesome fee.

I almost said to the vet as I was handing over the check "See, this is why I do it myself...."

I'm sure she would've laughed and agreed, but I don't know her that well so I opted to keep that comment to myself.

Dr. Alice was the one who disbudded. I actually met both of them as the other vet (her name is escaping me) came in just before we got started. The other vet talked with me a bit about how her 10 or 11 yr old daughter shows her nigerians in 4H.

As I left Dr. Alice carried the kids (who were in a small crate) out to the car for me and shook my hand saying it was so nice to meet me. I hope I wasn't rude when I replied "It was nice to meet you too, but I hope I don't have to meet you often!"

Yes, I am a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll.....and let's not forget way old school. There's something about the "throw back" jams from the 80's, 90's and early 2000's that gets me outta my chair and back that thang up.

I heard on the radio today that Nate Dogg passed away yesterday - nothing has been released as to how/why but it's suspected it was due in part to a few strokes he had a few years back. He is Snoop Dogg's cousin and was 41.

He was big for songs like Regulators and appeared in other great old school favorites like Shake It with Eminem and 20 Questions with 50 cent.

As a tribute - here's a snippette of one of my all time favorite old school jams - Regulators:

Now Nate got the freaks
and that's a known fact
before I got jacked I was on the same track
back up back up cause it's on
N A T E and me
the Warren to the G

...................

If you know like I know
you don't wanna step to this
It's the G-Funk era
funked out with a gangsta twist

Ahhhh....the G Funk era......

We saw Dr. Kara. I think she has at least one daughter and goats. But I remember her talking about a son too.
You make me feel ooooold!
