Well sheesh! Talk about timely. I just got off the phone with either Dr. Kara or Dr. Alice, not sure. Thomas our wether just knocked his scur off and was/is bleeding like crazy!!! DS remembered that our sheep owning friend was told to use cobwebs. Nothing else was working so we went for it. Wow! Stopped immediately! He looks awful. He's white. Or was. The barn will need a good scrubbing after that. I'm going to take a shower. :th

I know? Crazy, huh? Believe me, they're plentiful in our barn.
I just went out to check on him and there is still a trickle of blood and he looks like something straight out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie but the worst seems to have passed. He's walking around and eating and acting normal. I think I might sleep without worrying he'll be dead in the morning.
Sorry G-jus trealized this is your journal not mine! :hide

That is a pretty interesting thing to know. Would it stop bleeding in say, a trimmed hoof or a dogs toenail I wonder? That is cool.

If weren't late I wouldn't cop out and say Google it, but I did and even found recommendations for using them on humans! One woman said her husband grabbed some when she nicked the dog's ear while clipping out a mat.

I've heard of using black pepper to stop bleeding, but never cobwebs.

Our breeder told us about cobwebs too - I had forgotten until you mentioned it Hen. Very timely too because all of our goatlings are knocking their disbudding scabs off and bleeding. I can't wait until their hair grows back and covers the ugly.
Cayenne pepper works too for nails.

Thanks hen!!! It was awesome meeting you in person!

The show was great being my first one and all. I had a great time and definitly thought of stuff I'd do differently next time.

Funny I now recall the whole cobweb thing - I was giving all the gals hoof trims this evening and cut the crap out of Cara. I got out the WonderCRAP and figured it was better than nothing, then also sprayed it with BlueKote (WTH??? not sure what I was thinking). THEN I come inside to start posting and catching up and realize DUH....shoulda just grapped cobwebs!! :he

Anyway....as I said the show was great. Busy busy day. Got there around 7:15am and the show started at 9. I got home at 3:30 and I had told the people who wanted Opi's kids that I'd be around sometime after 4pm if they wanted to bring a deposit. I realized I never gave them my phone number so they could call and confirm so I emailed her both my numbers and said to call if they were certain they were coming.

Wouldn't you know at 4pm I'm outside with the goats and they show up! At least I was still wearing my show clothes so I looked decent. We talked for over an hour - more like an hour and a half and they left a deposit for the kids. They've emailed me since and said how much they love them already and are thinking of names. They said they thought I was such a good momma and I had to laugh and say it wasn't anything I did....after all, Opi kidded when I wasn't even there! They're going to come back in a few weeks or so and bring the mother/mother-in-law to see the kids. I said they're more than welcome to but they'd better be careful because Nilly's udder is getting bigger and I give her a few weeks. I mean...it wouldn't be my fault if they fell in love with Nilly's babies too and decided to take them home too, right???? ;)

So around 5:45 they left and Big G and I had to go pick up little g at my mom's house. She'd taken him swimming at the local town hall pool and had to work the next day...regardless of how much we tried she just didn't want to have him sleep over. Drat. :p We went out for Pizza and got home around 7:30pm. Cuddled up, watched a family movie and all passed out on the couch by 9pm.

Today we went to the Mystic Aquarium. My aunt lives in Mystic and as a birthday present paid for all of us to go. She prefers alone time with us/him because she's 74 and trying to make little g give Aunt Z the personal attention she deserves when there's 6 other kids running around doesn't really work. Aunt Z did so much for me and my siblings and treated us as her own children (she never had any) that she thinks of little g as her grandson.

We stopped at a local flea market on the way home. BIG MISTAKE. $55 later we came home with 2 pitch forks, one for me and a little one for little g who said he really wanted it because he could help me clean the hen house and "act like a farmer", a double handled saw (like they used to cut down trees years ago), a wicked old sythe, a fish net, and a brush saw - whatever that is. Some of the stuff is ornamental but it's all worth it. We;ve decorated the inside of our house with old farm equipment so Big G's always looking for more.

Opi was due for her 2nd dose of Ivomec for after kidding stuff and Nilly needed her CD&T for her pre-kidding stuff so I figured what the hey and trimmed everyone's hooves too.

HOLY TAMOLY did they need it.
