Yes, I'm fairly certain Dr. Kara was the other gal I met.

I'm going to make an appointment and bring in Fudgie's girls for a reburn if they feel it's needed. I gave everyone their ivomec shots last night (boy did they hate me for that) and after shooting up the fudge ripples I took a good look at their buds. Hash (the white eared doeling) definitely still has a horn bud growing but the other side looks sorta iffy and Rocky (the brown eared doeling) looks good on both sides but I just don't know. So I'll let the vet make that decision.

I talked it over with Big G (who HATES to spend money at the vet) and gave him 2 options - he holds the girls with all his might while I try the reburning myself, which I explained was going to be horrible as they're going to yell and scream even more than before and probably be stronger than the calf we disbudded last fall or I spend the money at the vet and have the girls sedated. I said if I take them to the vet I'll probably just try selling Rocky. I actually love her coloring more, but her ears airplane out more than Hash's and I'm falling in love with Hash. She loves me too and is very sweet - Rocky, OTOH, has the sweetest face I've ever seen but is more skiddish.

Anyway.....supposed to be 60* today! I made little g change out of the green long sleeved shirt and put on a green short sleeved shirt. We walked outside to leave and he took a big ol wiff....."Smells like Summer out here..."

Ah, well I'm happy if it smells like summer SOMEWHERE. We got a dusting of snow overnight. This winter marks both the earliest snow and the latest snow we have gotten since we moved here however. Enjoy it!

The little girl down the street was outside playing in shorts, a tank top and sandals! Nothing like rushing the season. :/

DS was out in short sleeves and Crocs. He lay on the porch swinging reading for a while too.
I'm a little disappointed the peepers aren't peeping yet. I thought for sure they would be tonight!

As I was coming in the back door tonight, the youngest was on her way outside in shorts and flip-flops. It was only about 62 degrees. Sent her back in for sweats, socks, and shoes. :D

Spring is coming!

Several years ago, my youngest went out to play. She had dressed herself in shorts, a t-shirt and no shoes. I didn't realize it. I looked out the kitchen window, saw her on the swing, looked at what she was wearing, and made her come back in and get more clothes on. I don't recall now how cold it was, but it was either in the 40s or 50s!

I think they all do it at some point. Half the girls at the HS where I work wear flip flops year round
No peepers last night but it's even warmer today. I guess the nights just have been getting too cold. But that means more maple sap!

I'm one of those shorts and tank top gals when it's 50* and as soon as it hits 60* as the high I allow the 'no coat unless you're b*tching cause it's cold' rule :hide

Then I stick my hands and feet all over Big G's body and giggle as he screams bloody murder from being subjected to subzero appendages.

I brought Fudgie's does over to the vet this morning (heck, if you're gonna miss work, might as well miss a few hours a day in the same week, right?). I wanted their opinion about the disbudding I did - Dr. Cara was the one who did it this time. I knew Hash's left horn didn't take; the horn was already growing. She ended up reburning both buds and we're going to hope for the best. She said that obviously she's not going to make any promises, which I already knew was out of the question. I'm just thankful they use drugs. Initial disbudding - I'm all for eu de natural, but reburning I want DRUGS. Dang did these girls yell just from being in the crate!

She looked at Rocky's disbudding job and said that I did a great over all, except the right side may end up with a little horn or scur growing. Nothing I can't live with...she said she has a goat they disbudded way too late (nigerian buck done at 14 days) and all they do is trim the scur when it gets annoying. She said she could reburn, but honestly it wasn't worth it. So, only ended up paying for 1 goat to be reburned and it wasn't that bad of an expense. I think worth it anyway.

Not to mention she said that for one of my first times disbudding it wasn't as bad as she's seen. Made me feel pretty good! So.....any one got goats to disbud? I'm free and need practice!!! :D

Mu stomach's all in knots. Tomorrow's the first craft show I've done for my soaps. I was up last night making a few more gift baskets and made sure I had everything all ready to go so I didn't have to do anything tonight. We're supposed to go to a friend's for a St. Patrick's Day party; I told Big G he's either driving by himself or he's leaving when I say it's time to go. We love these people, but I'm waaaayyy too nervous to get my party hat on.

Wish me luck!

PS - Sander's misfits is on low alert with a goat in the kidding pen on marestare.

I'm sure your soap show will go great, your stuff is beautiful.

And that sounds like a pretty good report from the vet about the disbudding! The one that didn't go well you correctly recognized and took care of the issue responsibly, and you probably came out of this vastly educated! I would love to be able to watch a vet do a reburn at this stage.

I kick myself that I didn't even try to watch this when I worked where this was being done. We lived in the city then however and I did not picture goats would be such a big part of my life.
