Well, you know me. Once I have more kids on the ground I'll be an instant photographer!

To get you started, though, here's one of the reg nubian does:

Maybe Big G won't notice if you just switch everyone out when he isn't home. Then you can say, "Oh, those goats, we've had em for a long time. I can't believe you forgot what they look like."

Just might have to, k.

The daughter down the street just called me. She's way interested in a trade - I was honest and said my nigerian does are crosses, not pure breds and she said that's what her project was on anyway. She must be in the Ag program at high school.

And the fact that they were bred was even better. She said she has no problem with kidding as she's gone it a few times already with her does. She wants me to come see her Saanans and to come see my nigerians today. Since we're that close it's no biggie at all. I'm fairly certain she wants both does in exchange for 2 Saanan does that are very close to eachother. They are 3 and 4 years old, I think.

If it works out this way, though, I'm going to say I want the kids back. Just seems more fair to me that way - what do you think?

I mean, Cara and Nilly are first fresheners so milking them is going to be a pain. And since these Saanans have been bred before it's not like I will have to wait 2 or 3 years for them to build up their udder.

Sigh....guess I have to learn all about Saanans now....

Big G is going to kill me.

PS - did I mention I'm having someone about an hour away send me pictures of an 8x12 barn that comes apart into two peices (she said top/bottom)? And they're throwing in a 4 ft hay/grain feeder with an awning for free? If the pics look great then I've got to break it to Big G that he's gotta go get it....

Oh man...

I guess getting the kids back depends on the quality of the Saanans and the quality of your goats. Thinking along the lines of milking and ease of kidding, etc or if the Saanans are currently in milk.

Sounds like a lot to explain to Big G. Good luck! I'm lucky, my DH has no idea what goats I have. He doesn't help me and he never keeps track of what is coming or going with the animals. As long as the numbers look about the same when he comes into the barn once in a while, I'm ok.

The Saanans aren't in milk any longer, or so I don't think. Huge bonus to me if they are, though. And will definintely weigh my decision on asking for the kids back.

I thought about that and whether or not this would be an even trade. Hers are a few years older, open but have been bred successfully in the past. I don't know if they kidded this year or not. Mine are younger, bred now, and I've done all the work so far in keeping them healthy during gestation. Sure, they'd have to go through the stresses of kidding with a FF, but I'd say I'm available to help as soon as labor starts no matter what time of day. I'd feel better about being there anyway.

It's all in the eye of the beholder. In my mind, I'm making out if I take the Saanans and kids, but that's because I want full sized does, not small ones, and I get to sell off the kids.

In her mind, she might be making out better because she doesn't have to go through the hassle of selling her full size gals and finding decent dwarf breeds.

Maybe we'll meet in the middle.

Only a few more hours to go....
