OOOO! #2322 would be perfect with a bit more length and an extra piece at "the bosom"
I am going to get that pattern.

Hoorah!! Break out the sewing machine!!!

I got my nieces one. I was hoping for a holiday sale, but no luck :( But since I was there, I got it anyway LOL.

So!!! This spring I'm going to set aside a couple hundred and take them shopping. They need a cutting board, scissors, some basic patterns, thread, pins... a magnet to gather dropped pins because they have deep carpet and a dog. It might be all dog hair, and no carpet. Hard to tell.

I'm thinking of buying everything they need to each make a really simple project. They might get a nice chunk of my tax return LOL!!!

Yep,.keep forgeting that you are in Alaska! I bet the internet is your bestfriend finding some things. I know being here in WV can be bad enough at times. Sometimes this place can be positively midevil  ,..but sometimes that is the best thing about it too :D . That is why I LOVE my dial-up internet. I mostly shop online and at the local thrift stores. Hunt the internet and find some good deals on fabrics and some new patterns,...gotta love the world wide web! :love
:) Thing is, I can go shop at Saks 5th Avenue in Anchorage if I wanted. So we are not lacking. Its just costs of new and fabric costs make me ill!

Fabric for Denim wrap skirts with a coupon run me $40!

I am teaching my niece to sew as well. We gave her a machine as well.
She just finished her quilt top, and soon we will finish the rest of it.

NICE!! I live about an hour or two (and I don't drive) from them, so something that is REALLY simple... That they can do entirely on their own.

I take them each for 2-4 weeks in the summer (hoping dad lets me again this year hahaha) and I want to plan a specific project for each of them :)

And Auntie lives near enough to go help out if they get too stuck :) So REALLY simple ;) hahaha.

This is where I get MOST of my fabric.

If there is a sale and/or a good coupon I'll hit Joann's.
Thanks! I've marked that site to go back to later when I have a bit more time.
I find some very nice cottons at the local quilt store - not particularly cheap (though not really that much more than Joannes), but a nice selection. I don't quilt, but I love looking at their fabrics. I made a gorgeous evening skirt from *quilt* fabric some years ago.

You all should come to Alaska and try to buy Fabric on a budget  Or at the thrift store :th
If I plan Joannes coupons very carefully I can keep it down, but its still way over what I could buy already made online.
When our friends from Fairbanks came down, they brought an empty duffle bag and filled it up with fabric!
