If I can go off on a short little tangent. :D I'm into American Tribal Style (ATS) bellydance. The costumes are gorgeous - and it's not some tiny shred of sparkly turqoise. None of that cabaret-style garbage. It's for real women with real bodies. My instructor is 60-ish - a beautiful dancer! Here is a random photo of a typical ATS dance troupe.

ETA: I have never danced for my fiance. It's "a dance by women for women's purposes" Interpret as you will, but I'm not dancing for men to watch!

Back to topic. :D

I like your sense of style!! Very comfy and still attractive. Still very feminine!
And that right there is one reason why I stopped wearing dresses. I don't sew, and the dresses they have out are NOT feminine!, especially if you wear the size I do. I actually like the dress in Tank's Hill's avatar. People think I hate dresses. It's not so much that I hate dresses as it's that they're not modest, and not feminine. So, I basically wear jeans all the time, even to church. And even if I were to start to sew and make my own, I haven't really seen any material that I like. :(

:barnie Ahhh I hate coming in late to a good thread.

BubB, love your modest style and the feminine looks your leaning towards. I also have the problem that anything I want to make requires a lot of fabric. I would love to find good skirt pattern. I keep saying I will just make my own but have not done it yet. All my sewing is usually for my girls.

Free, when you talk about using upholstery fabrics for clothing the first thing that comes to mind is The Sound of Music. I can still see all those Von Trapp kids hanging from the tree in their green pinafores and play clothes. They were gorgeous.

Great links from everyone. I am getting that sewing bug again. Shame on all of you. ;)

I just hate dresses. Always have. Part of it is I am really tall and nothing ever fits. The other part is it does restrict movement. Who knows when you will suddenly need to climb a tree or crawl under a car?

hehehe :hide We can show you how!

I guess I should clarify that those if us who wear dresses have "play" weekday dresses and dressy Sunday dresses.
I have changed a few tires in my day, and done all manner of farm chores in a skirt.
The only time I absolutely cannot wear one is when I need to wear waders to fish in.

 The fabrics I use don't look like curtains or couches....when made into clothing!

When I was working with horses for a living, I'd go into the salvage store and scan the upholstery rolls hanging on the back wall as I approached...the one that was the loudest and drew my eye first was what I bought to make my top for showing western. ;) Ya can't win if the judge doesn't notice ya....a lot!
