You all should come to Alaska and try to buy Fabric on a budget  Or at the thrift store :th
If I plan Joannes coupons very carefully I can keep it down, but its still way over what I could buy already made online.
When our friends from Fairbanks came down, they brought an empty duffle bag and filled it up with fabric!
If we can ever come up with ticket money ( and the courage to be "searched") that is on our agenda.
I want to go to Detroit and shop :)

Can you get creative in your fabric buying....I'm thinking sheets, duvet covers, things that might be on sale or on clearance that could also be purchased simply for the fabric....But I'm not sure if this type of thing would be cheap enough in Alaska, either. Is there a salvage store anywhere, or a place that does upholstery or that sells decorating fabrics....even to decorators only? If you wash up some of the good 100% upholstery fabrics, they make good sturdy clothing fabrics. I had access to a good salvage store when I lived in Maine that had a lot of Waverly fabrics for next to nothing, and I've purchased many yards of home decorating fabrics in the clearance bins at Joann's and used them for clothing. I am always sure to tell the clerk it is for a clothing item if I am in a state that does not charge sales tax for clothing items.

Once you wash them, the heavy sizing comes out and it is a very nice cotton or cotton blend fabric.

I browsed around, and I have found 3 pics of styles that I like and or love.
http://modestplus.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/michelle-o-in-indonesia.jpg A flared jean would look awesome with this one!
http://welovehijab.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/saouli1.jpg Outfit on the right.
http://welovehijab.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/artizara1.jpg On the right as well.

We are going to head into Anchorage to Value Village sometime this month and see what we can come up with.
VV is an amazing thrift store that is better then shopping at regular stores.
And they wash all articles before putting them on display.

Also, for weekday, working in the yard stuff, I am going to put together a couple of Kuspuks to wear with jeans. :love

I can make you a pattern for the first one VERY easily.

:D

I like your sense of style!! Very comfy and still attractive. Still very feminine!

I think I am going to find a shirt pattern that I really like and that fits me well ( possibly a real shirt cut up) and just lengthen it.

You gals are inspiring! I can't wait to get my treadle machine so I can leave it in the living room with the wood stove and sew without putting everything away each time!

BBrooks, can you wear knee-length dresses? The pics you've posted show you in longer skirts. But is it ok with the pants underneath, or will you lengthen the skirts compared to the pics? Just asking because longer skirts will really change the look. You want the skirt to hit where the pants are the narrowest, I think.

Very attractive outfits!

I am not held to any particular form of dress, just that it be modest and feminine. Even when sitting down ;) (Though, I do not be respectful of the Body in general.)
Much of that I have held dear for many years.
We have been in this meeting for close to two years now.
We ladies tend to follow this style, http://www.titus2.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/DSC_8498.jpg (church friends from out of state) with some variation.
Several do wear blouses and skirts, and are quite modern in their style, so I will not be an outsider if I do this :)

As to length, I will just have to experiment. Different style of slacks with the various lengths of skirts.
The thrift store will be fun for that!
I don't want to do knee length really.
