Well, he's packed. I've got food cooked and frozen ready to go with him. I've been in contact numerous times over the past month with the kitchen director. I know the menu for the week. We've discussed preparation techniques and what foods DS can eat without substitution.
He'll be arriving with his duffle bag, sleeping bag and pillow, and a cooler full of food! The kitchen guy will be meeting us at registration to take the food into the cooler/freezer.
DS is excited. I'm starting to get weepy already. I'll be fine overall but this isn't going to be an easy week for me.
DH has taken the week off. He has a list of things to get done a mile long. Gonna be interesting. I'm most excited about the day we will spend at the Brimfield MA antiques show. We haven't been in years, certainly not since DS came along.
We'll be doing lots of stuff around the house. I'm trying to convince DH to finish something before starting something new. Ha.
Well, to be fair, he did go to HOme Depot this afternoon and came home with a new attic fan. The motor in ours died a while back. I can't believe what a big difference it's already making.
I'm afraid I'll be a rambling whiny mess before we pick DS up on Friday. Please forgive me in advance!

Frustrating is: Someone is setting off large fireworks very near by. It's keeping DS awake and freaking out the animals a bit. The frustrating part-we can't SEE them!

:barnie those firecracker-ers!!!! My poor horses are still shell shocked from the 4th and leftovers.

The first time my daughter went to camp, I spent a lot of time in her room, doing nothing really, sitting on her bed just missing her. :/ She, on the other hand had a blast! :)

That's what I'm hoping for. Well, it would be great if I didn't sit around missing him, but, not gonna happen!
I want him back on Friday, dirty, exhausted and happy, and MINE for the rest of the summer!
We'll be tearing out his carpet while he's gone. I'd hoped to sand and refinish the floor but I'm afraid that's over ambitious. Tomorrow night DH and I are going to have a big planning session for the week's work....

Well, he's dropped off. Was off to have his swim eval. done and gave us the quickest hug and kiss you could imagine! I got a little misty walking away but he was happy, listening to the counselor and had already made friends with the boy in the bunk next to his.
I think I can keep myself busy enough this week to not go crazy...
We shall see.
Thomas lost his other little horn regrowth while we were gone. I wonder if he'll be less anxious about pulling his head back through the fence when he sticks it through?
So many projects to get done here I don't know where to start.
A list. A list would be good!

Sleep away camp??? Oh my, I have a hard time when my 3 go to Aunties for the night. It's so quiet and I have nothing to do. :hit

For Memorial day dh and ds went fishing with Grandpa. My mil asked if she could take the girls for a sleepover. I think it was because she did not want to be alone. I was all fine until about 7pm when the sun went down. I locked every door and window and made my dog stay by my side. It has been a really long time since I stayed home alone.

I survived. :clap

You and Dh will get so much done this week. It will be a good for you both to have some one on one time as well. Enjoy!!!!

:hugs

Yeah, sleep away camp. It's kind of terrifying actually, if I think about it too long. We stopped by Trader Joes on the way home since we never get out that far west. A friend called my cell phone and I about jumped through the roof until I saw it was Tom. Sigh.
I do okay when DS goes across town and stays with my parents, mostly. But then I get to worrying and imagining stuff. I won't dwell on it now.
This is a well established church camp. DS and I went together last year so I have first hand knowledge of how well run it is. That's saving me.
He's only 8. Looking at him standing with the other kids he looked so young. I talked with his new friend Walker. He is taller but the same age.
Sigh, it will be fine. It's just hard.
We will get a lot done. Tonight it was watching Masterpiece Mystery on PBS and drinking GF beer! :p
We also started a list, at least outloud, of what we plan to accomplish. I'm already tired....

My guess is that the camp will keep all the kids so busy that they are so exhausted by bedtime that they collapse into a deep sleep and have no time to miss you too much....so do the same! Git 'er done! He'll be back before you know it! :hugs

Very true. At 10:30 I looked at the clock and asked DH if he thought DS had any trouble falling asleep. We both doubt it. This is a big adventure for him. He will learn great stuff, about making new friends and taking care of himself, etc. It's good, but hard not to think about all the things to come as he grows more independent from us. Mixed emotions. :/

On a side note, we got home from church this morning to find our little dead end street lined with parked cars. DH suggested someone was having a party but when I realized the center of action was across the street I knew our neighbor had died. He hadn't been well the past year. He had a bad knee and couldn't get around. His wife was talking to DH about a week ago and mentioned that George had fallen and she had a heck of a time getting him back into his chair. Turns out he just slid right out of it. She asked if she could call us if she had anything like that happened again. We told her of course.
As it was, she couldn't wake him this morning, so it seems it was a peaceful end. Her children and grandchildren are all local, which explains all the cars. Her teenage grandson came over to confirm what I thought. I saw him talking to their nextdoor neighbors later on. That took some courage. The two couples had been friends when their kids were little but had stopped speaking about 15 years ago. Something about a tree that was cut down between their properties. Maybe they will start talking again. We'll see. (The other neighbor is NUTS)
It's got me a little more emotional combined with DS being away I'm sure.
Sorry to ramble. I'm just trying to get tired enough to sleep. I do have a mystery novel to read. Takes place in a farmers' market!
