My 3 and 5 yr old start VBS for the first time next Monday....gonna be interesting. They've never been in a "class" that long without me before. 9:30am-12pm Gonna be weird having 2 1/2 hrs of peace and quiet every day. :/
That's the first experience I had with him being away from me for a few hours and not with my mom. He loved it and after the first half hour I did too!
I'm doing find this morning. It's a beautiful day. I know he's having a great time. I've gotten a few things done but haven't pushed myself. DH and I are going to drop some books at the library and go get some lunch together. Then we'll come back to the house and tackle a project or two. Still haven't made the big list though. Wonder why we're so reluctant?

Woot! Glad he got off to such a great start! Sounds like he's going to have a blast :)

Enjoy some alone time with hubby and get lots of projects done! :weee
: ) Thanks! We went to the library together and got out some kitchen books for ideas. There's this kind of whole house redo percolating. Not all going to happen this week of course. But our goals have shifted from where we were 20 years ago, and DS is getting older so everything doesn't need to be decorated in "Early American Childhood" style.
We had a nice lunch together, bought new throw rugs for the kitchen floor ($4.99 clearance rack at Kohl's), ran into some friends along the way and had a few nice chats, oddly enough, about DS being at sleep away camp for a whole week. Some are stunned, some are jealous! ;)
Now DH is power washing the siding where I need to plant my currant bush and the truck he is working on. I am trying not to pass out from the heat. I washed the kitchen floor and started scrubbing cabinets but got light headed. I'll try again in a bit after sitting and drinking some water.
I also plan on some decluttering this afternoon. And a nap. Just 'cause.

Stay cool and hydrated Henny! :hugs
Thanks BB! I'm tryin'!
I sat on the couch and sorted some junk. Made a big pile go away! I've got a notepad next to me and I keep jotting down ideas. DH is still cleaning stuff with the power washer (salvaged from the dump and rebuilt  ). I scrubbed a few more cabinets. We're getting them ready for paint. We're "this close" to selecting a color.

Is this the cutest towel ever???? http://www.homealamode.com/daybreakfloursacktowel.aspx
The egg color is sweet! No, I didn't order it.... I'm just looking for ideas. We're kind of theme shopping for the kitchen. Neither of us wants to do a heavy duty theme like you see in some kitchens. We don't have the talent to make it look great. I have friends with adorable cow or chicken themed kitchens. Wouldn't work for us. Our house is a late 60's New England ranch. Very non-descript. Doesn't automatically lend itself to a particular theme. DH loves the 50s. If we could do a total 50s diner makeover with reproduction appliances he'd do it in a heartbeat. I'm thinking a few accents. Just can't decide what. Cowgirl doesn't fit me, or us, or where we live. So, I'm looking online on sites like that one for ideas.

Off to vote on the education budget for the 4th time. grrrrrrr
Then I'm going to lunch with a friend at the local brew pub. They do have GF beer. Food choices will be harder. Their baked onion-ale soup is to die for.... even if I get it without the bread it's still made with beer. I may have to bend the rules and pay the price...
Thunderstorms coming and rain expected all day tomorrow. Looks like it will be inside work and then the antique show on Thursday.
More decluttering and laundry when I get home.... fun fun!

Well, the education budget went down in flames yet again. 4th time at $5k per referendum. I'll spare you my venting on the matter...
It is raining lightly. The plants all look so much happier. I had a nice red Roma tomato I should have been able to pick today. Gone this morning, hmmmmm. It was on a potted plant on the deck, pretty much under my bedroom window. I wonder who came to visit?
DS is having a rainy day at camp. They have a couple of large indoor spaces so I'm sure they've been able to plan some fun indoor things for the campers to do today. Tomorrow looks to be a lot nicer and most of Friday as well. That will give him a nice end to his week. We pick him up at 5 on Friday. I miss him, but not as badly as I thought. I think I'm mostly jealous of how much fun he is having!!
Not much else new. Just worrying that more budget cuts will mean my job which is giving me a stomach ache. That may have more to do with the GF pizza I ate for dinner last night. DH suggested we try this place a few towns away. He's been avoiding pizza out of respect for DS and I. I can eat GF pizza but shouldn't because of the carbs. I didn't overdo it but I definitely don't feel well after the carb binge. Blech. Won't be doing that again anytime soon.
Ducks are still sitting on eggs. As far as I can tell without disturbing things there are 14 or more between the two nests. I sure I can find homes for these things. I do NOT need 20+ ducks around here...
DH is busy ripping carpet out of DS's room. He's almost got it all. We won't be able to refinish the floor while he's gone like we'd hoped but it isn't actually in all that bad shape. Some stains but it will do. We'll let him pick out an area rug if he wants next week. I need to paint it and make new drapes and the shades need replacing. Big plans for an Indiana Jones themed room. Whether it should like a bedroom IJ would actually have in his home, or a tent in the desert on an adventure is up in the air. I'm leaning toward the adventure theme with Egyptian hieroglyphs on the wall and Army surplus blankets on the bed, etc. We shall see. We have a friend who is into this kind of thing helping. The guy actually owns a real pith helmet! We had lunch with his wife yesterday. He got back from California last night. I expect he'll be calling soon to see how far we've gotten. My biggest stumbling block is wall color. Sandy beige makes sense, but sounds so dull. I have to remind myself not much of the wall will show when we're done!

try a coffee, think latte, color....then decorate with the lighter sandy beigey color, it may look a little better..... with all the khaki/tan color you may end up with on the beds or tent :p it may give a little more contrast. Try going like, 2 or 3 shades deeper than the sandy color. Just so it doesn't look so blah. Think desert in the dark.

You could make a tan "boulder" bean bag.....that would be easy and cute.

Yeah, I think the trick will be the right beige. Thankfully we have our expert for that! He found stencils for the hieroglyphs which we can do in a darker brown. Lots of crates and things for storage. Travel posters (reproduction vintage types) and maybe even mosquito netting tent over the bed OR if Herb gets his way, a partial canvas tent! How fun for our little adventurer, huh? :D
