I have cabinet painting tips for you if you want some. I did mine a couple years ago. Ton of work, but soooo worth it.
Mine had an ugly dark varnished finish that sucked all the life out of the room. I went to the paint store the contractors use and they were really helpful and gave good advise - first, no sanding needed unless you need to remove a grain pattern or scratches. Best. News. Ever.
I used a cleaner called Gloss Off by Krud Kutter - it degreased and cleaned in one step. Simply wipe on, wipe off. Then I primed them with 2 coats because I was going from dark to light. Then I painted them with EXTERIOR paint. That was a happy accident. It went on beautifully, dried super fast and is tough! 2 years later I have maybe 3 or 4 tiny spots to touch up where I dinged the doors with pots and pans. We are really rough on our cabinets too.
Sounds like you have alot of work going on. Love the bedroom idea!

Thanks! More great ideas! His bookshelf, a long low toy shelf and his dresser are all pine, painted white. We haven't decided what we're doing there yet. Some may be replaced. But with used stuff. Some front facing may happen to make things look like stacked crates or luggage.
The carpet is officially gone! I have some purging to do. I went through a lot of his clothes last night. He'll be wearing a uniform to school next year. He isn't going to need 35 tee-shirts for after school and weekends. I got rid of anything verging on too small or stained. Toys are next. Some will get packed away in the attic. Some will be stored in the basement play area and some will go to the future tag sale box. I need to go through the bookshelf too. We will be putting in a larger one eventually. We have a book problem in our family! We love our books.

Oooooo the book addiction, a problem near and dear to my heart! That reminds me, I need to renew my library books online today :/

Hmmmm the bookshelf....maybe you could add two sides and a triangle top with some cheap lumber and make it into a pyramid. :D How much work do you REALLY want to do....I can come up with all kinds of stuff for ya!

Lanterns....don't forget lanterns......maybe some vines in a corner.....ooooo the spider web thingys from halloween, you know the kind you keep pulling and they get webbier, they usually use them outside but they would look cool inside too.

If you could find an old trunk that would be a cool toy box.

Grrrrr! Just deleted my own post before sending...
anyway, it IS a fun theme, isn't it??
We found, and did NOT buy, the perfect accessory yesterday at Brimfield. It was a nearly life size pressboard cutout of a camel, dress in its finest, lying down. It was hundreds of dollars and wouldn't have fit in our car, but it would have been sooooo cool!
We did get the following items, none for more than $20:
a milk bottle, a milk bottle carrier, a milk can, a wooden milk crate, a Chinese checker board and some model train accessories. The theme was unintentional but I must have had Donki on my mind!
We pick up DS at 5. I wonder if I will be get a laundry bag of smelly stuff or a duffle bag of clean stuff because he wore the same thing all week.... stay tuned. :gig
Oh, the stonewall ducks left their nest last night and went into the duck house. I haven't checked to see if they went back to the nest today. Louise is still on hers, which is the smaller of the two, with only 5 eggs. I really don't want to find homes for 14 ducklings...... and we can't keep them!

:barnie He's home and driving me nuts!!! Lack of supplements I think. That's my theory and I'm sticking with it. I found him standing on the edge of the goat pen gate. The top. 4 feet off the ground. Balancing on the edge. With a HUGE boulder behind him ready to meet his head when he fell. Which he didn't. I didn't scream either. I just stood there and pointed at the ground and he jumped down. He though it was okay because he had his bike helmet on. :th Then he was petting Edna, one of the broody ducks, with a stick. :duc
Anyway, he had a great time, never showered after Tuesday night, smelled like the lake, ate a grilled cheese sandwich one day at lunch and got a whopper of a tummy ache. Live and learn kiddo, live and learn. We're thrilled he's home and can't wait for him to go back next year. Just kidding. Sort of. :gig
It's hot and humid and disgusting here. My temper is very short. Then DH was on the computer this afternoon and it came down with a virus. Several phone calls to several friends later he ran a malware detecting program of some sort and killed it off. We seem to be back in business.
No other news comes to mind. I spent a fair amount of time sitting in my air conditioned bedroom reading mystery novels today... I hate this weather!

I used to make my son wear his Equestrian helmet (which is rated for a harder impact) when riding his bike. Heck I should have made him wear it all of the time and you would have too if you had watched him "play"!!)

One day I will never forget he was riding his bike up and down our sidewalk. We have a 2 foot thick 3 foot tall stone wall in front of our house between the sidewalk and our yard. Our driveway comes out of this wall and there is a short steep hill up the drive to the house.

GEEK son was zooming down the driveway and had turned in (at speed) to the driveway and up that hill a couple of times earlier. It didn't look like a wise idea to me, so I had made him quit. When his dad got home GS was zooming along and yelling, "Dad Watch!!" He was so busy yelling he basically rode the bike (at speed) into the drive hit a bump and flew head first into a stone wall! Uninjured. We did have to buy a new helmet however. BOYS! May they all live through childhood and may we all live through them.

At least he had a helmet on......come on ma!
Yeah, well, I'm sure that was pretty much coincidence. At least it kept me from shrieking and causing him to fall....
He's better today. Has had all supplements for two days and I swear it makes a big difference! That and the fact he went to my parents' house with them after church.
